Why do people hate on mcafee so much?

i have mcafee and malwarebytes pro installed and i was looking through the forums and people really dislike mcafee. i would just to like to know why its bot liked and if you have another recommendations instead of mcafee. btw i dont mind spending some money on a av.

In AV programs everybody has their own pets. McAfee happens to be on few people's short list because it is very invasive and cumbersome.

My pet is Norton Internet Security but I also run a few systems with MSE/Defender which comes standard with Windoows 8.1.

The worst thing about Mcafee is it's updates and customer service,
It's not windows update friendly at all changes make it freak out
I've used Mcafee at one time and it was brief for the above reasons

Norton is much better in both categories but I've had them as well and if I had a dollar for every time they blamed Microsoft for some thing well I'd have a few more dollars ;)

Now days the only products you need to pay for is a separate Malware protection program which Malewarebytes Premium serves those needs,
Otherwise Panda free or MSE are my preferences there

Feel free to pay for an antivirus if you wish but your money is better spent on the correct products department :)

At one time I have used many store bought security suites. It been quite a while ago.

Best of my memory the problem people have with McAfee isn't that it doesn't protect you it because it doesn't play will with Windows 7 and a lot of other programs.

You get a update from Microsoft and McAfee goes bonkers.
You get a update from McAfee and Windows 7 goes crazy.
They just don't play well together.

Once a product gets a reputation of nothing but problems it's hard to over come.
I for one don't need the hassle.

I use MSE and Malwarebytes Premium active and it works for me.

Not a guru if you got McAfee working well for you; that is good.

@ Not a guru. Do keep in mind that if you decide to uninstall McAfee, go to their website & download their uninstall utility & run that.

Just uninstalling from Programs & Features in Control Panel does not fully remove AV programs & remnants can be left that cause problems when you install a different AV program.

Last time I updated Flash player on my XP computer, about 2-3 weeks ago, they decided to install McAffee in the process without my consent or even notifying me or asking me. This is reason enough for me not to bother with them.

i used to have problems with mcafee but recently they went away. Anyway its not that its bad at stopping malware its just not that friendly with windows 7. Right?

Not quite, on their official web site, one has the option to UNclick install McAfee just before one clicks to install Flash. I've been unclicking such things for several years now.

Well that's very odd, because when I updated Flash on my 7 PC only a day before the XP update, I didn't get the McAffee install, nor did I check/uncheck any options on their website. Maybe they just auto-checked yes because XP is no longer supported by MS and they think we need it by default?

That's sounds about right,
If not windows and especially windows updates friendly it really does not matter how good they might actually be at detection of corruption trust has been lost by tagging windows period.
To each his/ her own but I'll never use them again,
