120mm 3 Speed Fan

There are 120mm fans that range in speed up to ~4500 rpm, but I want a fan with a speed control switch, like the Antec Tri-Cool, but higher speed. The Tri-Cool that I found maxed out at only 2000 rpm...is there a such thing as a fan which combines the higher speed with a speed switch?

From a physics perspective a single fan in an open space (before it enters the fan).
Higher RPM means more air flow and more noise, but a fan the same size that can capture more air from a open space will match the higher RPM fan for air flow with a lower RPM.

...or a large fan spinning slowly moves the same amount of air as a small fan spinning quickly (and is quieter).

True , but if your max size is 120 and you want to move more air the best option is capture more air at the same RPM (less noise, less ware, less power needed)

That fan is interesting, but I don't think it is exactly what I want. When compared to the Tri-Cool:

Antec TriCool 120mm x 25mm 3 Speed Computer PC Case Fan - eBay (item 190462767217 end time Nov-29-10 19:18:59 PST)

It does move more CFM at a lower speed, but the noise level is higher than the Tri-Cool also. In addition, both fans uses a sleeve bearing, and I would prefer a ball bearing.

One thing that I noted about the Aerocool fan is that it has a hubcap. I'm wondering if that would lend itself to lubrication? The primary reason that I'm looking at fans at this time, is because my current fan has become noisy, and I haven't found a means to lube it properly.

It can also be caused by changing the pitch and shape of the blades.

Have you considered looking at 140mm fans? Some of them are made to fit the 120mm holes. They tend to move more air are are quieter then their 120mm counterparts (for the most part).

My question is why do you need such a high RPM fan, especially if noise is a concern? I know you didn't mention noise, but....

BTW, that Antec tri-cool will get loud at it's high setting. I know, I had them in my Antec P182 case. Anyways running them at medium wasn't too loud.

Fans also have to push against resistances so for this reason look to quality fans like Noctura's as they are extremely quiet and will push tons of air even when up against fins, HD cages and the like. Ugly but oh so quiet just run them wide open or use the resistors provided, they also provide rubber mounts.....classy!

I didn't read the details on all the fans in those links...the only two that were readily identifiable as having adapters were a couple of AeroCools. However, while they ran slower and quieter, they moved less air than the fans discussed previously, so that going in a different direction than I'm heading now.

It's not a question of whether I need such a high speed fan, I simply want one. I may not use the extra speed either, but I want to be able to...call it an experiment.

I ran all Ultra premium ball bearing fans as they would spin to 2500rpm but I couldn't understand why my case was still so warm (older Ultra case) I went with one Noctura to push through the HD cage and my temps dropped almost 10 degrees F. Since then as my case fans die or get loud or as I can afford they get switched with Noc's. I only hope one day they build 200 & 230mm versions.

Really though all the fans that have been suggested looks great im not a fancy smancy guy but that turbine fan Ciara brought up looks beastly and looks like it would do a good job

I really apriciate all of you because The nifty idea's we come across on this forum will make anyone alot smarter on what they are doing with thiere machine thanks again guys this thread is pretty awesome

I always used regular fans but now im going to look into re setting fans along with a new tower to set everything im hoping i drop another 10 to 12 degree's atleast when i do this feat ...........

I just picked one of their fans at random, and while it is interesting, it's specs are confusing.

Unless I'm missing something, it's high speed airflow is 110.3 cubic meters per hour, and that works out to 992.7 cubic feet per hour, thus only 16.545 cubic feet per minute. If I'm misunderstand, please enlighten me.
