152 reg files - keep or delete ?

I have found I have 152 *.reg files on my PC....it appears most of them are from my initial clean install of Win 7 Pro 64bit in Jan 29, 2010, or from a restore in June 2011

Some are from prior to the clean install of Win 7 in Jan 2010 ?

So..I assume most of these were created during installation or programs/services at those times.

Is there any reason to keep these on the HDD...or is it safe to delete them ?

Better leave them, it's more safe as the .reg files is a part of your system!

Interesting...are you saying that individual programs have/keep their own reg files separate and apart from the main Windows registry file ?

I always thought the main windows registry file keeps all the info needed for both Windows and programs installed on the PC ?

Registry can likely contain DATA for software. I'd delete those files at own risk, something could broke. However, registry files does not fill that much (it's somewhere around 100 byte - 10 MB), so they'll not take a part of your drive indeed.

You could try using CCleaners reg. cleaner, but again, you should not delete registry files, and expect they fix something It's at own risk as well.

I believe those are files that were run by programs to add or edit entries in the windows registry. They are not part of the windows registry itself. You can open them with notepad to see what entries they made. Most of them were likely run when the programs were installed. I've created my own from time to time to tweak settings in the windows registry. I still wouldn't delete them. There may be some that are needed by some apps to do certain things. They are only small text files and don't add up to much space.
