I have 1 HP 4gb USB Drive and 1 Micro Vault 2gb USB drive. Both of them worked fine up until a few days ago, now when I plug them into my PC, it will either say the Device "Failed to Install" or nothing will happen. I checked all my Drivers and they seemed to be working. I wasn't sure where to put this since it could either be a Driver or hardware issue, if it's in the wrong place I apologize

Any ideas.

Restore your system back to a point in time before the problem appeared and ask youself what software have you installed lately, what hardware changes have you made?

Please read this tutorial BEFORE you use System Restore, which is NOT the same as System Repair.

Welcome to SevenForums. Since it is a new PC I would (if available) try the USB drives in another system to eliminate them as the problem. I would also try any other kind of USB device you might have, be it a camera or iPod or anything USB to see if the ports work with them

If you don't have any success with any USB device you might want to try doing a repair install if you were provided CD/DVD recovery disks with your system. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/3413-repair-install.html?ltr=R

If none of the above fix the issue then I would probably contact the place of purchase or the manufacturer for Tech support, or return the system for repair or replacement.

This is PC and not a laptop we're talking about cause sometimes with a laptop unplugging the ac adapter and removing the battery for a few minutes will force it to reset the CMOS. And get the USB ports working again.

If you can download the manual for your PC you might be able to reset the CMOS on it and give that a try it resets everything to default.
Usually though it requires removing the side cover after of course shutting down the PC and unplugging it then moving a jumper on your MB, plug it back in, turn the power supply switch to the on position for a few seconds, but "DO NOT" try to start the system. Turn the power supply switch to the off position, unplug return the jumper to it's original position, then try a restart and check your USB ports
.
I mentioned trying to reset the CMOS on your PC (if it has a jumper) last because opening the side cover might void your warranty
Also amytime before you do anything in side your system it's a good iidea to make sure you ground yourself by touching the metal side of your case, in order to avoid any static discharge. Fabe
