2011 HP 2000 Notebook Laptop Squealing and Clicking

Hey guys, I've been noticing a strange issue with my 2011 HP 2000 Notebook laptop for quite some time and figured
I should look into asking for some assistance. For a long while now, my laptop, at very random and less-than occasional times, will make a squealing sound or a long beep, and then something inside clicks rather loud. I've noticed lately that I have received a "BAD_POOL_HEADER" Blue Screen error a few times, twice when I would wake the computer from Sleep Mode, and once while a Windows 7 update was in progress. Luckily, after my computer restarted from the one Blue Screen, the update continued like normal. I've also noticed once in a while if I shut the computer down, right before the laptop completely powers off, it may make a quick beep and click before powering off. I'm a little scared, as I don't know what could be the issue. I feel as though it's the HDD, but I don't know, hence why I'm asking for help here. Can someone help me out? Thanks!

Does sound like it could be your HDD and a sensor warning you that its is having smart data issues or parking its head poorly. Run Crystal Disk Info and post a pic of it please. Then make sure you backup your important files somewhere else or/and image your drive if you have the space to another external drive with Macrium Reflect Free.

Okay, I have a small problem... I can't seem to download the CrystalDiskInfo program on any computer I try... is there anywhere else I can download this application or an alternative I can try to download?

EDIT: I tried downloading this program from its official website, but the page just kept loading endlessly. I also went to CNET, but I saw reviews stated that the copy on that website contains a trojan, so I don't want to risk downloading the application if it could possibly contain a trojan virus. Are there any alternatives to this program that I could try?

I'v used that program lots of times, it should be clean. You not being able to parse the link is troubling though perhaps you are having other issues as well. You could try hdd tune as an alternative, also decent software. HD Tune website Might want to also check your ram while you're at it.

I was eventually able to download CrystalDiskInfo from the link you provided me with. I disabled ZoneAlarm and then Windows allowed me to download the installer. Here's what the program found:

The "Current Pending Sector Count" is the only thing in the list marked as cautioned. What exactly does that mean though? :huh:

Yup, I have one like that too at the moment that I have just finished imaging for a new drive. I would say considering your hearing clicking noises and beeping it is more than likely going to fail soon or at least will slowly start corrupting your data and I would air on the side of caution since a new HDD for that machine should be fairly cheap, you might also be able to get an SSD for it and speed it up considerably. What I would do at this point though is if you have an external HDD you can use then get Macrium Reflect Free and image the full drive if you have the space on it (it's only the used space not the full drive size) to conserve your current data before doing anything else. After imaging the drive then you can choose to have windows do a check disk and have it mark the bad sectors it finds to let the life the of the drive extend farther but I would still change it if you can tell the clicking is coming from where the HDD sits in the laptop. Does the clicking sound like the one in this video(very defined clicking and not random seeking noises that are just data being read)?

Sorry for taking so long to reply back, but I watched the video that you sent me, but my hard drive doesn't sound like the one shown in the video. The click is not a repetitive and constant click, rather it's more like a loud click that happens once in a great while. Since the five days or so that you replied to my thread, my computer has only squealed twice, but has actually clicked quite a few times more. I'm about to download Macrium Reflect Free and create a backup of my computer to my external hard drive. Thanks for your help.

Yeah even if it's not constant it could still be the drive. With your description though you might just have a fan going bad too. Good luck on your backup.
