Did you accidently create a new partition? How did you install a reinstall?

Also due to the difference in binary and decimal calculations of drive size, you may actually have about 335GB instead of 360GB.

Please post up a snip of your Disk Management window.

For more details about just what is going on, check Disk Management and post a screencap of it. To get to there, press WindowsKey+R (to open Run), then type "diskmgmt.msc" and hit enter.

Let's see, so far...
360GB total disk size
Figuring 90% actual usable space...
~40GB at most for OS, programs
100MB reserved on E:\
~284 should be left.

Indeed, there must be something else. Also, have you moved any files over yet?

Disk Management says you have a 150GB hard drive.

Can you post a snap shot of Device Manager with Disk drives expanded? That should show the model number (and maybe manufacturer) of the drive.

That's really strange--- in that, everything looks fine.
Forgive me, but it does beg the question... Why do you say the hard drive is 360GB? =/

Yes you have an extra 101GB partiton there. It won't show up as part of your drive space since it is unallocated. If you have no intention of using it for, say storage or another OS, Try this tutorial: Partition or Volume-Extend

It shows as a 148.95GB drive because the 101GB in unallocated space. Still together the drive is about 250GB. Can you see the label on the drive and get make and model number? You may see the size listed on it too.

If there is anything left unallocated, shouldn't it have shown up in Disk Management?
(I'm not sure now... I usually use Acronis Disk Director myself.)

Everything for that serial number shows up as being a 160GB drive, 5400RPM, 2.5"...

CMYK Artistry, I'm sorry but the technician was mistaken. I know the feeling, believe me. I ordered, via a salesman who punched it in wrong, a 64bit laptop back in 2006, only I didn't really know what it meant til years later. Incidentally, the time period to call Dell out on a botched order is like 30 days or something. Sorry, man. Those #s are right.

Just a thought, are you posting this info from the effected computer?
Indeed the hard drive is 160GB, but your disk mngmt window shows otherwise, ~250GB.

I think I finally see where you're getting 101GB from-- the Disk Management screencap shows (albeit disproportionately large in the graphic) only 101Megabytes. :o

Okay, for a sec I thought I was going crazy. ^o^ Hard disk ins and outs aside, I was like, whyyyy are my numbers not adding up like his??? LOL k.

Again, sorry there, CMYK. Check your receipt/invoice and make sure it says '160' or the serial number somewhere. If not, hopefully you can get a replacement for what you actually wanted.

1073741824 real bytes per GB = 149.011 GB as Windows would report

The HDD may have a few hundred thousand bytes more or less.

Also, thanks, Britton. I'll keep that in mind. The crazy sizing does tend to throw ya off. =)
