250GB hard drive newly formatted only showing 26.9GB

I'm not sure if the hard drive is failing, its an older IDE drive. I just formatted the drive and disk manager only shows it with 26.9GB and no other unallocated space. Is there any way to reclaim the lost space or is this a typical sign of a drive on its last legs?

Disk 6 (A) seems to be a small size too, is that one reading right?

Naw, there is another drive like disk 6. They're old 30GB gen 1 OCZ Vertex drives. The disk in question is disk 3.

We have a few WD reps here, just for the time being I wonder if their diagnostic sees it as it's actual size,

derekimo has given you the specifications of the drive which also shows the jumper settings required. Check for correct jumper settings.

I've just come in the forum for the day, and I read the tread so far. I see, though, most of what I would suggest for the moment has been done. Thank you all!

So, mithilander, please download the WD DLG software, as by derekimo's suggestion, and post a screenshot of what the software sees. Is the WD AV there still as 26GB? Then, please perform the Quick and Extended tests. Also, please check the jumper settings, too, as by Jumanji's suggestion, because this is an older type of HDD.

How long have you had the drive? Have you used it before, was it on the same system?

What is your motherboard? Please post the model, I would like to check the controllers.

I see you have a lot of physical drives. How does the drive seem in BIOS? The screenshot of your Disk Management isn't full, I see another Disk 7 below, is it a HDD/SSD as well? If it is, that makes for 8 physical devices connected.

After you do and post the test results, I would suggest getting a new IDE data cable/ribbon, and try connecting the drive to another system. Also, switch ports with another drive on your system, to see if this isn't a motherboard issue.

Well the WD DLG software sees the drive as a 29GB drive, a little different than windows but still not quite right.

The jumper settings are correct as I have the drive in the slave position of the cable.

I've had the drive for about 8-9 years. That was why I asked if its on its last legs. I never seen a drive fail in this way. I have used this drive previously in this same exact system/configuration.

My motherboard is an X58 EVGA E758-A1
EVGA E758-A1 3-Way SLI (x16/x16/x8) LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard - Newegg.com
I think the drive is on the JMB363 controller because it shows up during POST with the 2 other drives connected to that controller as well as the master hard drive on the IDE cable. During POST there is a different screen for the chipset drives, JMB363 drives, and JMB362 drives.

My full drive list is the following (assume SATA if not specified):
2x 30GB SSDs
2x 3TB HDDs
1x 1TB HDD
1x 120GB SSD
1x 240GB SSD
1x 320GB HDD
1x 80GB HDD (IDE Master)
1x 250GB HDD (IDE Slave) (Problem Drive)
1x Card Reader (microSD, miniSD, etc.)

I can't find the drive listing for the drives connected on any controller besides the chipset which does 6 of my drives. Then the JMB363 does the other 4 of my drives two SATA and then the IDE ones. The JMB362 I have disabled since I do not use the esata in the rear or the oddly placed SATA on the board due to my GPU getting in the way (refer to the manual https://www.evga.com/support/manuals/files/132-BL-E758.pdf to see some pictures that show what SATA connections belong to each controller).

I don't have another IDE cable to test with and I don't think I will until the weekend at the soonest. As far as testing in another system, I have a system at work I tested it with as well and it only showed the same 26.9GB. This other system is windows 10 x64.

I don't have an answer to your disk size issue but note that your disk 5 is dynamic. You generally want to stick to basic not dynamic. This tutorial may help converting it back to basic:

Usually drive letters A: and B: are reserved for floppy drives. Can you try changing the drive letter to some other available drive letter like K, L, M, N and check?

mjf, the worst with dynamic disks is that some popular free apps don't work with them.

Got 2 dynamic volumes (2x RAID-0, 4 disks total), no problems. I prefer to have basic disks otherwise though. I see I am running out of space though
