You coul d try a couple of free file recovery tools first. e.g. Recuva ( I doubt it will work ).

Or you can have a look for giveaways, e.g. power data recovery giveaway, or easeus data recovery giveaway.

Or the one you already tried seemed to find the files.

Both of those promos seemed to be over and not available. Recuva doesn't seem to be effective due to there being no drive letter assigned.

As proved by Getdataback Simple, your data is still there - no doubt about it. If you can do with only files without the original folder structure and filenames as you seemed to get with Easus, even PhotoRec can rebuild the data abinitio.

Not having the file names would be a nightmare. I have seen the files in both Getdataback and in Easus, only Easus had no structure.

The pdfs alone would be so difficult to go through and rename.

Ideas at this point? Pay for a copy of Getdataback... would that even work? Is there a free option based on the information in this thread?

Getdataback offers you the facility to preview the files. You can open the folders and files the same way you open them in Windows Explorer. You can right click on the pdf files , open the files and view.The MP3 file for example will play on the assigned player when you open. Getdataback recommends that you preview all the folders/files and buy it only if you have satisfied yourself of the data Integrity.

It looks like getadata back would work. It sees the folders, so presumably can do the recovery.

There is free version of power data recovery. 6.5 is the one I have, from a while ago. No limitation on the amount recovered with 6.5 free version. You can see if that version is still around.

It will scan and recover without limitation.

The 6.5 free version does not save the scan results. You need to do the recovey all in one session.

You can recover some files, then recover some more , etc as long as you keep the program open. But if you close the program- the scan results are not saved.

I have only ever used on partitions\unallocated space, perhaps 100gb in size.

I don't know how long it will take for 2tb. What have you got to lose by trying it?

7hrs sounds reasonable.

If you want to do it in stages, you will need to get a license for personal version.

Once I pull the necessary data off this drive, does it then become a paper weight or is there some way to salvage the it for use?

After recovering your data you can try and partition it, and see how it goes.

7 hours 30 minute for this that to run and it seems to have found most of, if not all off the files. However, I am back to the same problem. This program does not keep file names and or folders intact.

Is there a solution to keep the files intact by name and folder?

Aomatsu accidenatally/unintentionally deleted the partition and initialised it as a GPT drive. Drive unallocated much like yours. We tried the conventional methods PW and TestDisk but no joy. (Your case is a second successive failure for me ) Final recommendation: Getdataback Simple - made very reluctantly with really no hopes.. And it did rescue all the files with complete structure intact. ( reason why I put it first here in this thread )

I have stopped asking the OPs whether they really bought it. Many seem to have "managed" to get it .

If getdataback shows all your files correctly, then it will probably recover them if you have a license..
