I heard that you have to use some kind of xpmode as a 3rd party software to run 32bit softwares and drivers... is this true? Can anyone please elaborate and share links?? THANK YOU!!! :D

Welcome aboard. :)

32 bit programs run good on windows 7 64 bit system, the are installed in C:\program Files(X86). XPmode is just a virtual installation of XP in windows 7, works as good as standalone XP installation, with all its features.

Can you please elaborate what you want to accomplish ? :)

Thank you for the info.

I recently purchased 2 desktops with windows 7 home premium and I want to upgrade to Pro or Ultimate to be able to run my 32 bit softwares such as acrobat, office, etc. I also have 32 bit softwares/drivers for my existing printers that I will still like to use. So I will have 2 new desktops running windows 7 pro or ultimate and 2 xp pro. I just want to be able to run all my existing 32bit softwares and printers on my new desktops.

Thank you!

I am running a 64 bit Windows 7 Home Premium computer, with 32 bit MS Office installed, 32 bit printer drivers installed, and they all are working flawlessly there. So, I guess it will be all possible in your computer, too.

yeah, not pro vs ultimate that matters but 32 or 64 bit.

And /usually/ 64 bit works well. I've mostly not had much problem with programs or drivers... "mostly".

A lot of drivers like printer drivers are user mode so you can use 32 bit drivers. Some, like sound card and video drivers are NOT. You need 64 bit versions of those, but luckily, win7 x64 has been out long enough that most all companies now support it. Took a while for M-Audio to catch up with the drivers for my delta 44 audio card but they finally did.

If you want to be super safe and you don;t have more than 4 gig of ram anyway, install the 32 bit version. Otherwise give the 64 bit version a try, it'll likely work out well.

XP mode would be a last resort for me. I'd try compatibility mode first and you don't need Ultimate for that to work. I'm running office 2007 and Adobe CS.5.5 on my 64 bit system. No problems that I know of.
