50 GB of temp files wont Delete

I did disk cleanup, and it says i have 50 GB in temporary files and when i cleaned it in admin mode, it didnt delete.

Iv tried multiple times and it wont delete.

Any Ideas on how to delete it?

Try downloading and running CCleaner. It specializes in this and has other tools as well: CCleaner - Home

I ran it and analyzed with everything on, and it only saw about 500 MB

Well C:\Windows\Temp\ is the temp directory if you want to manually check it out.

CCleaner should delete it no problem, but you have to tick the box manually for it to clean it. By default it won't delete those files. Did you make sure that box was checked off? I've never had CCleaner fail on me like that.

Don't forget the user temp folder...

You will find this at

c:\users\*you*\AppData\Local\Temp

Replace *you* with your username... and just type it into the address bar at the top of any explorer window.

The huge disk usage is probably the result of software or update installations... the good ones clean up after themselves... but not all do.

Hello Lloyd,

By default, Disk Cleanup will not delete temp files less than a week old. This can show you how to set it so that it will. It's the same in Windows 7.

Be aware that this folder is hidden. If you want to access it using Explorer you will need to go to Control Panel/Folder Options/View and tick the appropriate box.

Actually the AppData folder is hidden, the local and temp folders under it aren't.
Really, just type it into the address bar of windows explorer and see for yourself...

Also, if you turn on the menus in exporer you don't need to go to control panel to show hidden files and folders... it will be in Tools/Folder Options on the menu.

Ok i got rid of it. It was the folder in my other topic, although it was 10 GB, it was 50 GB on the disk. All gone.

Just had to take ownership of every file in safe mode, and then delete it.

You can add "Take Ownership" to the context (right-click) menu with a simple registry key. I myself use this, no safe-mode required: Add "Take Ownership" to Explorer Right-Click Menu in Win 7 or Vista - How-To Geek
