I have a problem with the hard drive, which is a 500 GB Seagate Barracuda Hard Drive. When I plugged it into my computer and started it up, the hard drive is beeping (it's not clicking). To make matters worse, I checked in Disk Management; as stated by the title, the drive capacity only shows up as 3.86 GB (and that it's read as unknown, unallocated and uninitialized.) When I tried to initialize it. I received an error message saying it can't be initialized due to an I/O device error. Can anyone please help me?

Sounds to me like the disk isn't formatted.

what is the exact model number of the seagate 500 gig hard drive?
as Megahertz07 said, run the Seatools program to check if that Seagate 500gb HDD is being recognized in Seatools and perform the long DST or extended test.

Hi EtsWindows2002,

Do not waste your time on this. Your drive is dead. We have had umpteen threads like this and it has always been a dead drive - failure of he PCB on the HDD. There is nothing you can do nor anyone here. If you want to recover data contact Seagate Data Recovery partners ( talk to Seagate Tech Support) or other professsional Data recovery agencies.
