Solved 560Ti doesn't perform correctly.

Hi there,

I cannot fathom what the issue is, the gpu runs at full load on games which is fine but performs poorly and doesn't get hot. It suggests to me that the gpu isn't getting the required voltage but its odd to say my gpu isn't getting hot enough at full load.

Skyrim runs at full load when the card is having its performance issues and runs at 42c. On a normal session it runs around 60c and fluctuates depending on the environment. 30/25fps average when the card isn't performing correctly and constant 60fps when it is performing optimally. On normal sessions fan speeds increase when temperatures do but when performing oddly it doesn't change.

I was first led to believe it was Afterburner giving incorrect readings but speedfan and other software has matching results and it correlates to the issues.

Is it a PSU issue? I cant find much info on this issue, maybe am being too specific and looking into the wrong area it's just peculiar.

Oh, I haven't overclocked the card and cpu is overclocked but has ran healthy for a long time.

Use extreme Power Supply Calc to get an estimate. Looking at your specs I'm thinking you are probably close to the limit for your PSU, so that might be the issue.

I did that calculator before I bought the new parts and yesterday, came to around 500w which is 100w to spare which sound normal. Realistically it will probably be a little bit more than 500w but I dont have that much plugged in my pc anymore. I used to have around 4/5 HDDs so my listed specs arn't 100% accurate.

I think the psu is a little bit under powered regardless, am not sure how accurate the calculators are.

Okay, you could try removing a few things, IE the second vid card and any extra hard drives and see if it changes. That 560ti card is a good one, however moving up to a newer gen card might help too as they use less power. I'm not suggesting and upgrade just yet, just ideas to maybe see if it is a power issue.

I see what your trying to say but again, I have 2 PCIE cards (GPU & NIC), 1 HDD, 1 SSD, CPU Cooler & fans, 2 DIMM sticks. A new gpu isn't ideal right now and yes newer gen of gpus consume less power, I noticed it from my old cards but anyway. The problem occurred when my system was running with the components above just with the extra few fans.

Just to clarify, I've re-seated the 560ti, checked PCIE power cables, checked modular connectors, plugged in cpu cooler fans. My pc is currently running fine with the GPU @ 46c which is normal for idle on my card. When performing like crap it runs at 36 and is throttled. *(presumably by power issues)


(My 450 is rarely used, only when I need a 3rd monitor)

Yes, tried 320.00 beta and 314.22, no difference and that was the first thing that occurred to me. Just Cause 2 wouldn't play above 10fps on my standard settings.

I even rolled back and still no luck, am guessing it's a hardware issue here

Wanted to add even though you said you tried the nvidia drivers, are all your motherboard drivers, dx, etc up to date. This Nvidia Tweak Guide is a pretty go read to help optimize

Even though the other card for the spare monitor isn't in use, it is still drawing some power. I would uninstall the secondary card and see if ANYTHING changes. Also, I know that Skyrim can be heavily modded and can eat up GPU RAM like nobody's business......is your game modded and how much RAM do you have available on your graphics card?

Thanks for the reply but the card is only installed when I require an extra monitor then removed and placed back in its box with anti-static wrapping. GTS 450 should be able to run on my PSU with the 560ti anyway.

Skyrim should run maxed out without mods fine and it does the gpu is running normally, I know what your saying but this is on ALL gpu intensive applications e.g. Games. The ASUS Graphics card is a 560ti and comes with 1GB standard, more than enough for Skyrim @ 1080p. When the card runs normally again, it runs at 60fps everywhere which is how I run it.

Just to inform you all upon my misfortune with the computer, I have found it was the PSU as originally suspected along with the other members. Six months old and having faults that shouldn't exist on a PSU of this age. I am going to RMA the PSU and then sell it and in the process of flogging the PSU I will purchase another PSU. (Not from Antec!)

I don't believe Antec make bad power supplies, maybe I was unlucky but 6 months is way too short of a life span.A hard life it was, but then again my OCZ did endure 3 years.

*I personally think the PSU was a bit fragile and was stressed a little much in some infrequent situations, but again this isn't right and it works but with the power supply emitting squealing, squeaking noises with a lot of other crazy crap *especially at power on*. It's a great shame as it was silent.

You should go with a Seasonic, if you can get one in your area.

Corsair has a 7 year warranty, but I wouldn`t go below 750 watts. Trust me, I know.

Antec vs. Seasonic?

Seasonic is the OEM for a lot of Antec's PSU's.

Ya, I have a list of who makes what for who. The ones labeled SeaSonic are supposed to be better quality.

My Corsair HX750 ( made by Channel Well Technology, according to this old 2009 article ) is performing flawlessly, so far, knock on wood.

I guess its just luck of the draw, unfortunately things by all the top brands go bad from time to time or are even DOA.

Touch wood my Antec has been fine for a couple of years now.

With a modest 4.0 OC my core temps are 19, 21, 20, 24.

Obviously depends on ambient temp for the idle temps, but here they are right now.

I am running offset mode too, so it's pretty much irrelevant. At idle it will run at 1.6ghz at 0.960v, under load it will run 4.6ghz at 1.270v.

I`m still trying to figure out how to get it to throttle down when it`s OC`d. It just stays at 4 GHz, stepping is enabled and all the settings are the same as when it runs at the stock 3.4 GHz so idk.

AddRAM, do you have both EIST and C1E enabled? And I think you have to set CPU V to auto
