I got some new speaker from Dell today, the Logitech Z323 than has a subwoofer and two speakers. Set up was quick and the sound was superb.

Here's the problem...very noticeable 60 cycle hum from all speakers. Not so much when music is playing, only during the silent times or if it's off with no music you can hear it. Any ideas? I tried emailing Logitech but theyr'e undeoig a transfomation with their system and no email till the 29th according to the website.

I went by the instructions and put the green male cable from the right speaker in the green port in back of the computer as shown in the directions.

How are the speakers powered? Does the socket that the speaker's power adapter plugged into have a good ground?

Built my first computer (8Mhz 8088cpu, 640K RAM, 20MB HDD, 2 360K floppy drives) in 1985 and have been building them for myself, relatives and friends ever since.
Yes, and in fact the noise has went away? I unplugged and re-inserted the plug from the main speaker to the computer and now it's much better.

I can't seem to have much luck with these speakers. Last night when I shut down I turned off the right(main) speaker by the volume control knob on the front. This morning at boot up I turned it back on and no light on that speaker to indicate power and no sound. I let the mouse arrow hover over the speaker icon in the system tray and it showed "Speakers 18%". Maybe that's the balance that's configured. There's still no sound.

This almost sounds to me like there could be a small short of some sort in the power supply for the speakers. Have you tried to see if you get get a hold of and try out a different power supply? if not i would give this a shot as thats what it sounds like to me.

Also have a pretty bad speaker setup which is a klipsch promedia 5.1 surround speaker setup with huge subwoofer and lg blu ray player/writer. Also a hp officejet pro 8600 plus wireless all in one and a logitech s7500 webcam.
All I did was turn it off last night and back on his morning. I disconnected the connection between the main speaker and the computer and re-inserted....nothing. It sounded so good last night. I don't have another power supply.

Here's what I just tried. I took the lead that went into the sound card and plugged it into a portable cassette player/recorder, turned on the right main speaker and got sound. However, the power light on that speaker still didn't come on. I unplugged everything and started over and still no sound and no power light.

OK-I tried the most obvious problem an checked the outlet for power...none. I went outside and checked the breaker and none had tripped although I just reset that breaker anyway. It did no good. I decided to just plug into another outlet that was powered, turned the speaker on and no power. I had just checked that outlet and it had 121v on it. When I unplugged the speaker cable from it and rechecked it now has no reading. I don't know what's going on.

Well you should take a portable device and the speakers and set them up in a different room, if all's well then the issue is that outlet and that could be all sorts of problems. Could be time to replace the entire outlet and if possible go with a medical grade outlet.

There must be a short in the main speaker or the sub woofer as it keeps knocking out the outlets. I tried it in two of them and after doing so there was no power to those outlets.

Yikes so tell me it tripped the fuse breakers? Any over load would blow a fuse long before damaging the outlet which can occur over long periods of time and basically means the outlet is wearing or worn out and short circuits.

There's two outlets that work in this room and two that don't. The adjacent bedroom also has two that work and two that don't but that room is not on the same breaker so I'm totally confused.

The other outlet in the room with the computer did work until I plugged in the subwoofer and now it's dead.

Go find the GFI likely these are shared with a outlet in a bathroom or kitchen which has been tripped? For sure return the speaker system and good luck traking the GFI down....it's somewhere in the house/apartment.

You were right. It was the GFI in the hall bathroom right across nearly from that bedroom where the computer is. The thing is, what caused this? If I plug that sub woofer in again will it knock it out again? that's what happened when I plugged it into the one good receptacle and when I turned the speakers on no power light on the speaker and no power at that receptacle.

A short is all it could be and it's in the speaker power cable or amplifier somewhere, just don't bother unless the power cord is detachable and you can test with another cable?.....worst that will happen is the circuits will trip again. In the end it's the fault of the speaker system and time to track it down or best exchange it or RMA it. Good luck and glad you switched power back on!

I'm keeping an eye out on this real closely. It makes me a bit nervous wondering how or why that GFI is tied somehow into those receptacles. All was well this morning but again, I'm watching it.

That does sound very odd if your speakers are also tripping a gfi outlet. If that is the case it does to me sound like a short in either the power supply and or one or both speakers. But generally speaking; speakers should not cause a gfi outlet to trip. Are your speakers plugged into a power strip which is plugged into the gfi outlet? If thats the case it could possibly be the power strip even if it doesnt affect the computer itself. That one outlet on the strip could be bad; so you could try another outlet if thats the case.

What other electronic devices if any are near your speakers besides the computer itself? Also; have you tried rebooting the system to see if the sound goes away? Because a lot of nearby devices can cause interference at times.
