7068 - Free arangement of files

I've been reading this thread, and would like to provide my own views on the subject of the "I-bar", and wish to ask a question:

When in Windows Explorer, are you using the one of the Libraries views, or one of the "Computer" views?
By library views I asume you mean the new win7 libraries?
No. I could go anywhere, as I said before, program files or the actuall pictures folder for example (not the libraries one).
and I always like my files in the "large Icons" view.

@ Mr. Grim.
Alright, I shall come up with something after I get back from my CCNA class in a few hours.

Alright guys, I just left the feedback for this little problem.
Here's what I said: (in red)

This is feedback for all builds of Windows 7, x86 and x64 alike, including build 7068.

It seems that you've taken out the feature that allows free movement of files inside the same folder.
What I mean is, on Vista for example, when you click and drag a file around in the current folder it's in, you get a black "I - indicator" bar of where you are placing the file. Also, if you right-click and drag, there is no "move here" option upon letting go.
Not only does Windows 7 not have these features, it doesn't seem to allow us to put files in any order we want- free arrangement- such as on the desktop.

These few seemingly small features are actually very big. Many users will be disappointed that they can no longer do this, I for one.
Please return these features to Windows 7.
We need that freedom, if we are to live "Life without walls."

Included is a link to a thread about this (including pictures for clarification) on the SevenForums:
http://www.sevenforums.com/general-discussion/6172-7068-free-arangement-files.html

It'd be greatly appreciated if anyone reading this would send the same feedback. I believe that not having these features is a huge loss for Windows 7.

This can effect files etc.
If they are old files you may need to take ownership. :)

On a clean drive; those are brand new files in the Windows folder.

Can you give me an example? I'm genuinely curious.

Might have to do with the fact that I view all my files in detail view instead of icon/thumbnail.

Well, with files or folders, I like to put them in the order I want.
As in relevence or what's in them, for folders, just however I want.
Not everything can be satisfactory when ordered by name or size, etc.
And yes, I do know about the different options of how you can order them, I just like my freedom.
Pretty much every OS can do it freely, why take that option out?
I mean I seriously use it everyday.
One good example is that I have a 500GB 2.5 external drive. I back up most things on there, but I also keep hundreds of installation files and many other things on it.
I need the freedom to organize things the way I want, I keep things extremely organized. Extremely. lol
Everyone I've talked to about this (irl) do the same, and things it's pretty dumb that you can't do this on 7.

That help clear up your curiosity? =D

Also, I always view all of my files in the Large Icon view (with the exception of the "Computer" window which is in Tile view) with the details pane at the bottom.
That's just how I work. It works for me.

Interesting, I figure since they're trying to push the "search to find" thing they opted to remove it. Having the same terminology for "move here" for order and "move here"for cutting/pasting was probably conflicting.

From reading the dev blog for win 7 I know they're trying to consolidate as many things as possible, that's probably the reasoning.

I like my abc's so name ordering is enough for me. different strokes and all that I guess. =)

Hi, did anyone ever find a solution to this problem?

I'm running the RTM (7600) and have this problem, it's driving me nuts!

If there's no fix for it i'm going back to Vista!

That you can't manually arrange items in folders. i.e. drag them to what position in the folder you want them to be. Like you could in every previous version of windows.
