71 million page faults on desktop window manager

Hey

I have just looked at my processes as my mouse was flickering and noticed that the dwm.exe has 71 million + page faults.

Should i be concerned by this? Is this a normal figure and if not what steps can i make to lower the fault count?

As I am not real sure if this is causing you a problem or should you be worried about it I can only think to start by doing these.

Do you have any custom themes installed by any chance?

A page fault isn't really a fault but a completely normal event. This is the count of pagefaults since system startup. A large number could indicate a problem but we need to know how long the system has been running for it to have any meaning.

The system had been running for about 5 hours when i ended the task it improved response time on my mouse and the mouse stop flickering and then it was pretty normal again.

Although it happens again eventually.

The only custom change in terms of therm is a background image for the "User Log in" screen.

I defragged all 3 hard drives, my registry files, i ran an AV, Anti Spyware and ran CCleaner to clean my registry.

No real problems found. =/

My ESET nod AV also has 15 million faults from the system running for 6 hours (which has not done a scan today)

Sounds like a memory leak.

Try disabling ESET's active monitoring.

In addition to LMiller's comment mate the system specs would be good too.

Did you run the two checks I mentioned?
