Two question on build 7100:

1. I am using the quicklaunch bar, as explained in the tutorial. After restarting, Windows "forgets" to show the quicklaunch. Is there a fix for this?

2. After while of inactivity, windows shows the login screen. How can I turn this off?

Thank you for any answers.

Type power in Start Search, click on change Power Options, click on Require a password on wakeup, click on Change settings that are currently unavailable, click on Don't require a password, click on save changes close the window finished

I hope this helps

OK pooch - this did it. Thanks!

My 1st problem (disappearing quicklaunch bar) remains, however ;-(

Yes sorry I cant help you here, I was really disapointed to find that the Quick Launch Bar was dropped in 7.

I never tried to get it back though and am now reasonably happy with pinning icons on the Task Bar. It comes in at a poor second place, but is workable :(

I am glad that you got the other problem sorted.

I have just had a thought, when I set up my toolbar, I always put Computer on there, as Icons. After the last install it also kept reverting back after a New Start. All I did was keep putting Computer back on the Tool Bar eventually it stayed put
Annoying but it worked, the only thing that I may have done differently to you (apart from a different bar) was that I locked the Toolbar b4 Restarting. It could just be possible that this will work for you too.

Gruesse nach Deutschland!

Thanks :D

I am locking the taskbar, too.
I meant to keep trying it. Lock and restart after you have set it up, maybe it will remember this setting after a couple of attempts just like it did for me.

caid602 Hello. I also am having buggy performance from the quick launch. I do not have your problem. Mine is that the first icon from the list is visible on the taskbar. However annoying this is it is still there after restart. I have it working good on 7000 64 bit beta, the buggy behavior is on my 32 bit test machine that has 7100 on it that I got from a torrent. I am hoping that it may work for us at sometime in the future because I use it often. Good luck.. lm

Does anybody know, where this setting should be safed? Maybe I can edit the registry manually?

I have become happy with pinning items to the task bar but I remember that the quicklaunch bar can be created in Windows 7. Do a google under Windows 7 quicklaunch and you will most likely find all the info you need.

Gene: Thanks - I have already installed the quicklaunch bar as suggested in the tutorial (The one in the tutorials section of this board). It works great, but the Quicklaunch is gone every time I restart the computer.

Does anybody know, where windows saves the information concerning the quicklaunch bar? I guess, it just doesn't save the settings, so maybe placing an appropriate file or registry-entry could help.

Another week and I still didn't find a solution for this problem. Can anybody say if the problem is fixed in the recently leaked build 7127?

...nobody...?
Does it work properly on other machines than mine in build 7100 or is it a general bug?

Sorry Caid, but I'm using the 7127 build and cannot replicate the Quick Launch disappearing on me like it is for you. Did you do a clean install when you installed Windows 7?

I did several restarts by now, but it doesn't help

When my last motherboard was randomly rebooting from blown caps, setting the quick launch would never stick for me...because of the random reboots and not shutting off the right way.

So I'm just wondering that when you reboot, is it clean, as in from the start menu? Or are you just shutting the machine off physically and starting up?

Hi Brink,
I have tried the gpedit method to restore shutdown - doesn't work. I tried the regedit, but there is not "noclose" value that I could delete. Strange.

Caid,

Could you post a screenshot of these registry locations below. I'll see if I may be able to spot a entry that may be causing this for you.
