Hello Alexey,

Open 7-Zip using Run as administrator, click on Tools (menu bar) and Options. Click on the 7-Zip tab, uncheck the top two items like below, and click on OK. This will remove these context menu items. :)

What is CRC-SHA?

Thanks, this is very helpful. I removed the menu items, but I wondered what CRC-SHA is anyway as a part of 7-Zip

The CRC-SHA context menu has a few different sub-items which allow you to calculate the CRC checksum or SHA hash of a file.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyclic_redundancy_check
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secure_Hash_Algorithm

CRC is a relatively cheap error-checking code, whereas SHA is a cryptographically secure one-way hash.

Both can be used to verify the integrity of a file acquired over error-prone (CRC) or untrusted (SHA) communication channels such as the Internet.

For example, Notepad++ is a tool I have downloaded many times. The developers calculate the SHA hash of the file and post it alongside the download. This allows anyone who has a file they think is the Notepad++ installer to cryptographically *guarantee* that it's an official copy.

You can find the SHA-1 hash for the latest release of Notepad++ (as of writing) here:
https://github.com/notepad-plus-plus/notepad-plus-plus/releases/tag/v6.8.3

If you download that file then use 7-zip's CRC SHA -> SHA-1 menu item, 7-zip will calculate the hash of the file on-the-fly and you can manually verify that it's equal to what's posted online.

In my seniors moment I could not find where to start ... :o
Start (Menu) -> Programs -> 7-Zip -> 7-Zip File Manager << RUN AS ADMIN *must*
... then pick up where Brink started

I finally got there ;)
A stroke 7 weeks ago (second one in 5 years) has not only lost me an eye but a few brain cells to boot
Still breathing and giving cheek
