Solved 80 GB intel SSD on the way

My plan is to just plug it in and reboot with no other SSDs or HDDs connected, install W7x64 & my other programs, attach my two traditional HDDs & that is about it.
Looking for advise on what else tweak-wise, etc. I need to be doing.......or is this just about it?

A few of the things is to run windows experience index pretty quick after install. It is said that this causes windows to recognize it as an SSD and take appropriate actions. Windows should disable defrag on the SSD but check a make sure. Other things such as write indexing, superfetch and prefetch are debatable. There are arguments on both sides. I turn superfetch and prefetch off. Write indexing I have tried both ways and seen no difference. You should set Windows to never turn off the hard drive and disable hibernation (to free up disk space). I also move my user files to another hard drive for the same reason.
A good idea is to do a system image as soon as you complete install and move it somewhere. you will have to put it in a folder or rename it or windows will overwrite it the next system image you do. In order to use it you will have to rename it back to the original name. That way you won't have to reinstall again.
That is about all I do, other than watch disk space and install some programs on another drive. I usually choose the very large programs or the ones that you seldom use. That's about all I do.

I plan on only OS & programs only on SSD so I doubt I will hit 50 GB.
Where do I double check Defrag, Super & Pre Fetch off?
Same with disable SSD turn off & hibernate?

Since you have Windows 7, you really don't need to do anything other than install the OS, and run WEI. Once that's done Windows will do the rest, including disabling Defrag.

If you want to migrate you OS from you spinner to the SSD drive, this will make life much easier - Paragon Migrate OS to SSD - Overview. It even allows you to choose which folders you want to move

Yea Win7 will handle everything for you. Just run the WEI, then reboot.

Aside from possibly disibling and deleting the Hiberfile, I wouldnt do any tweaks to it.

The Intel drives do very, and Win7s default settings for them work quite well. Addtional tweaks really do nothing for performance, except maybe slow things down a little bit.

I would like to backup an image of my SSD dive (OS, programs, & a few bits).
Best way to do this using W7?
Just use the W7 backup system?

Windows 7 backup or Macrium for free solutions.
Acronis as a Paid solution if you want more features.

Any of these should work just fine.

You will get many opinions on whats best but I would use either Macrium Reflect or Acronis.

I didn't like the built in one so well, as it just seemed to be lacking. But thats all just personal preference.

If you have a Seagate or Western Digital Hard drive, they both offer backup programs which are scaled down versions of Acronis. You can download them for free.

And it goes without saying that when you do an image back-up, do it to one of your HDD's or to an external USB drive, not to the SSD. Also, make a Windows rescue/repair disc (CD) ASAP and keep in a safe place.
