very strange!
Those two files are tagged as Read-only for some reason - and they will resist being changed to write-enabled until their permissions are corrected - which begs the question of how they got changed in the first place.

Please run the following commands (with any luck, I'll get them all right this time!)

TAKEOWN /F C:\Windows\System32\oobe\*.* /A
ICACLS C:\Windows\System32\oobe\*.* /grant Administrators:(F)
ATTRIB -R C:\Windows\System32\oobe\*.*
TAKEOWN /F C:\Windows\Web\Wallpaper\Windows\*.* /A
ICACLS C:\Windows\Web\Wallpaper\Windows\*.* /grant Administrators:(F)
ATTRIB -R C:\Windows\Web\Wallpaper\Windows\*.*

That should take care of the problem permanently - and perhaps prevent future problems

The basic problem is simple enough - the files are tagged as read-only. and since Admins don't have Modify access, they can't untag them. I assume that SFCFix doesn't check/modify attributes before attempting the processing, so it gets an 0x5 error on the deletion. and can't rename copy/move the original.

The question is whether the daughter files are real ones, or merely hard links back to the Winsxs ones - I think that perhaps the evidence so far is that they are links, so we need to ignore the daughters and merely adjust the Winsxs files properly.

Well, the file changes all worked this time, at least - although the reset of permissions still failed for some obscure reason.

...and the SFC scan is clear :)

Just to double-check, please run another CheckSUR scan, and post the CheckSUR log file

then do a manual Check for Updates, and try installing just the oldest available update.
post your results.

@Tom
Do you want to try and grab the various permissions data?
Not sure about how to go about getting Owner data from the CMD - but the permissions are above

Easy steps don't exist I'm afraid.

Everything we want is stored in this file: %userprofile%\AppData\Local\niemiro\DataBlocks

Hi Sarah,

Would you mind zipping up the following file and attaching it to your next post please:

C:\Users\{Your Username}\AppData\Local\niemiro\DataBlocks

Both CheckSur Log attached and the file requested by Tom. Did a manual update and the same error is still preventing it from updating
