I'm not certain if Vista or 7 would be causing problems so I've disabled desktop composition in compatibility mode and visual themes while running a new game. Point is my 8800gt according to speedfan is running too hot(or at least it seems like it's too hot). I turned off the new game at 120C.

I've created better air flow but wanted to see if rivatuner could reduce the temp even more by underclocking my gpu. The problem is I can detect default settings but when I slide the slider down to reduce core and memory clock MHz and click OK it resets to default. If I click apply it will remain where I put it but I'm not sure that it's actually controlling the card at all. I've googled till I'm blue in the face. Any ideas?

I just caught it running at 130C....is that even possible without doing damage?

check your drivers, read a few minutes ago about a similar issue where an 8800 had a driver for the 9800 installed by mistake.

thanks they just released a new driver for this card and I'm fairly certain it installed correctly.

maybe it's the new driver then, try rolling the driver back.
