Pardon me up front, this is a total noob question, this is my first build. :o I just got a new ASUS Maximus VI Hero Intel Z87 motherboard, and I was wondering if anyone could help me figure out if dual channel 2 x 8GB memory is supported. The exact RAM I have is G.Skill Sniper 1866 DDR3 2 x 8GB (F3-1866C10D-16GSR) DDR3-1866 (PC3-14900) I looked in the user manual for the mobo and didn't see this listed. Kinda sucks for me as I already have the RAM. Any help here would be awesome :)

Motherboard manufacturer's usually have a RAM compatibility chart on their website, often downloadable PDF.

Motherboard info here:

http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/MAXIMUS_VI_HERO#specifications

Spec info on that motherboard notes:
* Refer to www.asus.com for the Memory QVL (Qualified Vendors Lists).

http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/MAXIMUS_VI_HERO#support_QVL

See attached file... [recommended list, not a perfect list of what will or will not work]

Motherboard is dual channel supported by the way, but don't see your memory stick model listed specifically, I would try it when the board arrives and if it acts fine, then it is, I would note the 4 timings on the stickers on the RAM sticks and input them within the BIOS if it allows it to improve your chances of no problems, like mine is CAS-7 (lower # is better), settings 7-7-7-21, so the first 4 specific RAM entries would be what you put in exact numbers for only, if able at all.

To confirm, use CPU-Z off cpuid.com, get now and you can see what you are using for timings, but like I said could be wrong via BIOS not perfect with these settings, use the sticker on the actual ram as the guide.

Just go with what Faladu has said, he has given excellent advice. If a product is not listed then it normally means it has not been tested.

"not being tested" does not equal "will not work", more often than not it will run as long as it is the same kind of DDR supported by the mobo, as seen in the spec sheets Faladu posted.
