Solved A question about the "Registry"

Hi Folks,

I have several "Registry" line items that appear like this:

Left Panel:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData\S-1-5-18\Components\BFD41F5382DE63640BD7DADC43E07548

Right Panel:
Default REG_SZ (value not set)

I suspect these entries come from installing software, and then removing the software.
It looks like a useless entry, perhaps a null entry.

My question is this: Does a package such as Registry Booster find these and delete them, or can I just delete these null entries if I find them.

Hi Paul,

If software such as 'Registry Booster' recommends they be removed then it can be done safely, I don't recommend you manually edit the registry for stability reasons as you might accidental remove keys the System or an application depends on being there

Starting with Windows Vista the Registry is now dynamic such that values are only loaded upon first access and are no longer permanently loaded into memory, It may consume 4b of disk space however.

Those types of keys in the registry are perfectly normal.I wouldn't delete them with Registry Booster or Manually they are needed or may be needed in the future.
Leave the registry well alone unless you know what you are doing.A few rogue keys here and there is not going to make an ounce of difference to your systems performance and your more likely to do harm that good.

Somewhere on this forum there was a similar question or discussion.
As there, i can say the same thing here.
I have used CCleaner for quite some years, with XP and now with W7 Home, and it has never given me any problems when i used the registry cleaner and i use it often (but usually nothing is found). You can always make a back-up before fixing the registry. And if problems arise you put them back. I would not do it manually as that could be risky as pointed out above.
