I am on my tablet now. This problem is with a Dell Inspiron 15-3541 laptop OS Windows 7 Home 32bit. This Dell laptop is only about a year and a half old. I was typing a post in a Android forum about a Y adapter for my tablet so I can plug in a SD card reader at the same time keep the tablet charged up. I was finishing up the post when without any warning the screen went black and the laptop shut down. The laptop wouldn't start for 5 minutes. After 5 minutes the laptop started up normlly. I lost about an hour and half worth of typing. I got this laptop from the pawn shop with about 6 months to go on the factory warnity. This is the 1st time that this has happened to this laptop. I expet it out of my old HP laptop, it's OS was XP PRO service pack 2. What gives?

I will clear my bench and open up the Dell laptop. I do have a can of spray air. I also have the laptop sitting on top of a cooling fan base and I heard a noise last night and turned off the cooling fans and I forgot to turn them back on.
As to the warranty goes. I scanned a copy of the sales receipt and emailed it to Dell support and they transferred the ownership to me. Afew weeks after that the built in sound card went belly up and I got I got a new motherboard put in under warranty.

Sounds like an overheating problem. Laptops tend to run warm anyway but if its clogged up inside it will be more susceptible to heat problems. Cleaning out would be my first suggestion.

As far as warranty, unless you are the registered owner with Dell they usually (in all cases I've seen) will not honor any warranty.

Here is the link to the Dell manual.
