a10 6800k gpu unstable

hi all. having problwem again with this system. i was play far cry 3 and out of nowhere, the screen went black. i couldnt get it to come back on and the case buttons wouldnt work. i had to pull the psu cable to reset. anyways. after a little research i know its the gpu. i have underclocked it by 15% and its working but why is it not stable on stock clocks??

what temperatures are you getting? it could be overheating.

the current thermal paste used on the latest fm2 coolers is getting a bad reputation for being poor and giving idle temps of 50c~ which is a tad hot.

thw thermal cutoff for the a10 series I beleive is around 75c

well in the bios i get about 70c but in hw monitor i sometimes get 98c core temps and about 35 socket temps so make of that what you will. and i am using the stock cooler with amd thermal paste.

in the bios its 70c!?! thats basically when the computer is at least amount of load. as its not running anything.

the increase yiu see in core temps is because its running applications thus getting warmer.

as a point of reference my cpu is 26c in bios and 43c under extreme stress test.

check your cpu cooler is clamped down properly for a start. if it is id recommend at minimum some new themal compound. of not a new cooler.

Also it might be worth uploading pics of inside your case so we can see what airflow is like.

OK well I'm sure it is clamped right because I've had this problem before. However new thermal paste wouldn't go a miss.

In the picture i see the PSU on the top it could be shooting hot air on the CPU causing it to throttle

no hot air coming from psu. this has never happened with any other game. and i have been able to overclockt eh gpu to 950 from 844 just fine.

regardless of the overclock and or PSU its defiantly thermal throttling you are experiencing. 70c is not a good idle temp even if you lived in the sahara..

this is the second cpu and mobo ive had from ocuk. what do you think i should do now then?

Its not a design fault or something you can point a finger at least of all a shop that just sell things. Its just hot in your setup. Best bet would be an aftermarket cooler and new thermal paste.

theres many or reasons that would cause additional heat issues in a case. Poor air flow from the front of the case, top mounted PSU's draw air on heat it up and dump it in the case, also case placement can cause heat issues, if its in a too enclosed space with little or no airflow this will also cause temps to rise.

But as yours is very hot even in the bios, id definitely Cooler/TIM related

Used to have a pro 7 back in the day of core 2 quad, and it was one of the best air coolers around.

Im fairly sure the cooler you have wont fit as its an am2/3 based cooler and your current is an fm2

Make sure that is is blowing out and not in. With it blowing in and depending on where the case is located, it can and will pull in any hot air coming from the PSU thereby causing things to overheat.

core temps now loitering at around 60 and cpu socket is 35

You want only a pea size drop of thermal paste in the center of your die the stock heatsink / fan combo is junk have you considered a 212 evo from cooler master? keeps temps low and are around 35 bucks us dollars
