Abandoned Firefox for Chrome

I've used FF since its initial beta but lately its become useless. I can't view videos from Wall Street Journal, certain sites lock up FF completely, YouTube buffers endlessly and I can't use KeyPass because the quickkey wanders all over the screen.

I began using Chrome just for these particular "features" but finally just stayed with Chrome. I'm not happy using Chrome, what with all the issues of Google privacy, but I don't browse or email anything controversial in the least. At least I hope that's the case.

Anyone else have similar problems?

You might try disabling/uninstalling add-ons that you don't use, and even uninstalling/reinstalling firefox itself. I used firefox exclusively until IE9 came out and have stuck to it. It comes preinstalled and is just as good as any other browser despite claims to the contrary. I don't like installing needless things, but would prefer firefox to chrome, cause chrome is just ugly.

i too went from Firefox to chrome. love the sync feature in chrome. i have no privacy concerns with Google. i love the the simplicity of the chrome interface. i am perfectly satisfied.

^ Going to have to try the Firefox sync again. It was just coming out when i bailed, and it wasn't working great then. Technically it worked, but it seemed like changes took some time to get to my secondary machine. When I played with Google Chrome at the time, it seemed like changes were almost instant to my second machine.

I use FF but you cannot deny that speedwise Chrome is much better (only take startup times for instance - FF has always been grind-slow at starting).

There is a Russian produced Chromium-source based browser called Iron which excludes the privacy-questionable features of Chrome. Here is a comparison between the two browsers: SRWare Iron - The Browser of the Future

Another browser that you might want to give a try is Waterfox.. Its the 64x vs 32x (FireFox) im pretty sure. I had installed it and used it only last night after I did a fresh install of windows. The browser is great. I dont have any issues or complaints. Just had to download Silverlight, Flash, Java and the links should be right on the download page. Im over Firefox, Chrome, and IE.

Thanks for the suggestion, but it's alright. I'm 100% satisfied with Google Chrome. There is nothing that is missing from Firefox which I actually miss at this point.

I gave Chrome a run for a while, tried Opera, which I like, and IE9. In the end I missed FF and decided to give it another try. I uninstalled it since I had my bookmarks in Chrome. Once reinstalled, everything worked and worked quickly so I'm back in the fold with FF.

What I didn't like with other browsers was the tabbing. FF lets me open links in a new tab and then open that tab. Couldn't figure out how to do that in the others.

While I am a frequent user of a browser, I don't need a lot of add-ons, extensions or sync so FF satisfies all my needs (so far).

Well done. Chrome is nor the most extensively used web-browser and it has overtaken Internet Explorer according to some reports.

Sounds like you are happy with FF. I am personally an Opera man. It has many tab options.

What I didn't like with other browsers was the tabbing. FF lets me open links in a new tab and then open that tab. Couldn't figure out how to do that in the others.

Chrome will open links in a new tab. 'Right-click > Open link in new tab' or middle-click (mouse-wheel) the link. I think what can be deceptive is the fact that the new tab opens in the background. If you don't notice the appearance of the extra tab in the Tab Bar, it's possible to think that nothing has happened.

Firefox has an option to switch to the new tab immediately when links are clicked but Chrome doesn't have this. It can be done but an extension is needed for it. 'Tabs to the front!' is the one.

thanks for this. i used FF from 3.6 till 10.0. they still have a major issue with flash. i now use chrome and love it

What I've found is Ghosterly was the source of all my problems. In the 3pes tab, enabling the Advertising, Analytics and Widgets options caused the reported problems. Once I unchecked them, FF behaved normally. Now that some of these posts have addressed other problems I will probably go back and revisit these browsers. I kinda liked Opera but found it difficult to find particular options.
