Hi, I am trying to setup a seven box, but I have serious problems. 5 of my 5 network card are not detected (XP detect 3/5 and Vista 4/5). 4/5 don't work even with the XP or vista driver. But I don't care about that, 1 seem to work, so I am fine.

The working card use a marvell wireless G chipsset and see my network. I can connect to my windows and Linux share, use my printer and so on, but I can't use the internet.

All other laptop and desktop connect to the internet without trouble (both Linux and XP). Why not Seven? I just want to surf on the net, why is this OS so complicated and with so many regressions!!! When a software engineer can't figure how to surf the web, you know someone had done a bad job somewhere.

Ping timeout, IE does not work, Connections config in config panel show an X on the router-internet link and right now, I am writing this message from an other laptop on the same network, so it is not related to me connection or my router.

Windows seven build 7600, md5 fine

A software engineer should fill out his systems specs so the Help Desk can do a good job here.

It is not my computer, it is for a client. Anyway
biostar G31/intel lga775 motherboard
2gb 800mhz ram
250gb sata harddrive
no name wireless-G card with marvell chippset, came with a driver CD with Vista 32 support. The driver is up to date and the card spec is here Encore Electronics, Inc.

Those informations are totally useless as the only component involved have been specified in the first post.

Hi and welcome. Without your systems specs im guessing. Have you reset your router and upgraded its firmware?

Waiting for system specs

Not necessarily. One info you have omitted here is whether you are running a 32 bit or 64 bit 7 OS. It makes a difference.

You say you have 5 network cards? When I find myself in this type situation, I use the working internet to find the current drivers (in your case 32 vs 64 bit) for my card (in your case you can get 5 drivers, one for each card) and copy them over to the not working computer. If you cannot find a current 7 driver, try the newest Vista driver for each card. I then install a card and restart the computer, then install the driver and if all goes well Internet is up. In your case, you have 5 cards you can install (one at a time) and try the drivers until you find a working one.

One other point, I had difficulty with the 7 firewall. I suggest you turn it off (temporarily) and see if the firewall is blocking your 7 Internet connection. If so you have found the problem and can find a solution.

I can't use the working internet as none work ;)

About firmware reset router, first, this is out of question, rebooting this network would take 5 hours, but it should not cause the problem, because other computer can access the internet without problems and a wide variety of OS (mostly Linux, but OSX, XP and FreeBSD too, vista work too, event if none is plugged in right now). For testing, I did turn off the hardware gateway (a PFSense box) to eliminate it of the possible cause. The main router (with wireless) is now supposed to have direct access. Again, I am posting from the same wireless network, so it can't be in cause.

I also turned the Windows firewall off, same result. This is strange.

EDIT: 32bit, sorry, I forgot, but this informations isn't useless, you are right.

If your network truely takes five hours to reboot you have a problem. I have run 1000+ node networks that re-booted in under 20 mins. good luck

Ok, not 5 hours, but some work and I need to reboot every computer in the right order to have share mounted corrently (modem -> gateway -> router -> file servers -> media server + web server -> vmware server -> desktop + laptop).

But what about my problem? I don't think the network is responsible, because nothing can close internet port with the current setup. Even if it was the case, other wireless devices would suffer from the problem too, they are all using DHCP without MAC specific configuration.

No, IE = 0 and hardware = 0
When I use mouseover on the wireless it say
"connecter
no internet access"

Just booter a Mac and an XP laptop and both work fine, even if the mac was never connected on this network.

OK ..... Sorry I find this confusing.

Now, Windows 7 has ways to diagnose problems. Open the "Network and Sharing Center" either from the Control Panel or from the icon bottom right in the taskbar. You can click on the "Local Area Connection" link and use the Diagnose button there as well see what DHCP has assigned. Also, there is a "Troubleshoot problems" link for networking, the last line on the page.

Also, when you created the New Network connection, you have three choices: Home Network (less secure), Work (more secure), or Public (most secure). You can find the specific settings under the "Advanced sharing settings". Everything depends on how you setup the New Network Connection and what the diagnosing discovers. I suggest you experiment with some of these settings. Hope you find a cause.

Same wireless network != same computer

And the network diagnostic is the first thing I did. The one in device manager say no problem found, same for the net configs one. It only say that my wired card are not working.

Right, it is a desktop, but no lan card work. The onboard is detected, but show driver errors (the follow a nice BSOD, so it is disabled for now), if I try to use the official driver, it say that the current one is more recent (it may be more recent, but 7 should check if it work before blocking the official driver...).

My client want a wlan card anyway as the computer is for her office and the network is too far for wired connection. I have an USB wireless dongle somewhere, I will test to see if it is better, but it have a similar chipsset, so the result should be the same.

I see. Well ... My question is if you can post using this computer, why can't you download the most current drivers with it, then copy them to a floppy or a usb drive or something and then copy them to the windows 7 computer where you can install the most current driver for one of the cards you have and see if one of them will work better than what you have now?

I have the most recent drivers and I did transfer them on an USB thumb drive. The wlan card itself work, I can see my intranet, I just can't see the internet.

@iseeuu: The wlan driver work fine, no need to touch it (or point me a good reason why it is my problem). It seem to be a windows 7 internet net stack problem or something like that more than a driver issue.

@zigzag3143: possible but I don't think it would appear now. I will check settings in win7 to see if they are weird. Default settings should normally work fine as the actual setup is almost a standard as any home network (without the gateway).

Writing IP addresses directly in IE address bar does not work, so it is not a DNS problem...
