Absolutely No Games Install Correctly. At all.

Alright, so the other Windows 7 forum has apparently collapsed so now I'm here. As far as I can tell I don't think anyone has solved this problem but I think a few other people are having it.

I cannot install a single one of my games onto my computer after a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit. Not one. To illustrate this point as clearly as possible, here is what I've tried to install so far with no success: Red Alert 3, Dragon Age, Grand Theft Auto 4, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Left4Dead, Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance, Hitman: Bloodmoney, Fallout 3, Empire: Total War, Portal, and a few others.

The reaons for these errors eludes me. It's been everything from "corrupt files" to "data errors" to something about the "medium" being bad...unless a gremlin put all of my game CDs/DVDs into the microwave one night and then methodically put them all back, I sincerely doubt the games themselves are the problem. I've heard someone say something about the "HsMgr.exe" but I have no idea what that means.

I've tried running install in compatibility mode, I've tried running it as an administrator, I've tried extracting the contents of the discs onto my computer and running from there...nothing has worked. Not a single one of my games will install on this computer.

In short, can someone please help me out here?

I don't really know if it's just games. Google Chrome and iTunes installed seemingly without a hitch, but those were over the Internet. Then again, so is EVE:Online. I would like to test it with a CD/DVD but I don't have any "Windows 7" programs.

Perhaps the problem is your optical drive? You have no programs on CD/DVD besides for games you can try?

My device manager says it's up to date, but who knows? It's important to note that even games I download online won't install properly, so I doubt it's the DVD.

After running scannow in the elevated command prompt I got: "Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files
but was unable to fix some of them." I'm gonna reboot to see what happens. I'll also see how the canned air works. Again I'm extremely skeptical at the idea that it's anything involving the DVD player or the discs themselves.

Strange as it sounds, I'd run check disk on your hard drive. In one case at the shop where I work, we had a guy come in who was complaining of a similar problem (he couldn't install anything from a disc, though we hadn't tried downloaded software) and the issue was a cluster of bad sectors on the hard drive. Whenever he tried to install something, it would try to write to those sectors and then would bomb out.

We ended up having to replace the hard drive, but it fixed his problem.

Took us awhile to track that down, never seen that happen in that particular way before.

Just a thought.

Hi! ^_^

I'd the same problem in the job where I work around 2 years ago and also was a bad cluster and, for the client's luck, that cluster was easily recoverable using HDD Regenerator.
I think that if Windows installed without problems from DVD drive, it must not be it's problem. Before performing DVD drive's checks you could try running MemTest86+ for your RAM and HDD Regenerator on the hard drives that you use for games and Windows itself. Also... it could be a virus/malware?
