Hi everybody!
I apologise for opening once again the same threat but I have a doubt.
I have the original version of windows 7 professional cd and I am almost ready to format my acer aspire 4315, which is now running with xp, and install the windows 7.
However, it seems that the model I have is not compatible with 7.
In the acer website it has no drivers for the windows 7.
What shall I do?
You think that acer will provide drivers soon or that windows 7 include drivers or I shall not install 7

You will be taking a risk. Do you have a backup drive?

If you could please fill in your system specs, we might be able to dig a little deeper for drivers for you.

Thanks,
~Jonathan

Please tell us what is problematic after installing win7 on that laptop! thanks

Hi guys.. new here. I noticed this thread has been left 'hanging' so thought if i could add something to it (after a complete year :p). I have an Acer Aspire 4315 with Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 installed. (Actually, over a time, I have installed almost every OS on my laptop ranging from Kubuntu to Mac OS X Snow Leopard.) And let me assure you that I have had no problems what so ever with the OS. Even the AERO effects are as smooth as silk. The only thing i have added extra is 2GB RAM.

If you guys want to install Win7 please go ahead. I can give you some tips that will help you extract even more juice from the OS:

Do a fresh install. You cannot upgrade XP. (Even if you could.. i would still recommend a fresh install.)

Format your hard drive. Keep no more than two partitions. NTFS is optimized for large partitions. I have 2 partitions of 50% each + Win7 reserved partition.

Very important: enable AHCI for your SATA drives from the bios BEFORE you install Win7. This will have the OS use the AHCI interface which is faster and more efficient.

It is always a better option to increase the RAM on your laptop. If you don't.. trust me you will want to after installation. (You can use rapidboost as well but that is a temporary solution)

Post Installation:
Although Win7 will install most of the drivers, it is still recommended to update the default drivers. Especially the AHCI drivers. (Acer Vista drivers work fine with Win7 - You can get them from acer-europe site)

Unlike XP, Microsoft does not provide a Tweak UI or BootVis for Win7 (yet). So I had to search a lot of websites to tweak the system. I guess now that I have found this site, that search ends. :D

I'm sure you guys knew most of this but this was my two cents worth.:geek: I hope this will help some of the people using this laptop to venture to Win7.

Cheers!

I'm afraid you'll be disappointed about tweaking Windows 7...there will be here surely some threads to help your things up, but no real system tweaks without making the machine unstable:

Thanks for the update NoN. I have found and tried quite a number of tweaks on my OS that work fine. Maybe I can share those here as well.

Should I start a new thread or extend this one?
