Acer laptop is overheating

My laptop is 9 years old, maybe I need to replace it? But my issue is overheating where the computer will auto-shutdown because it passes the 50 degree Celsius danger zone (50-55 range) for my model laptop.

I have the bottom cover off for now so I can see what's going on? When it gets hot in the danger zone 50-55, my fan doesn't auto turn always, sometimes it goes on, sometimes it doesn't? So I figure the fan and attached heat strip thingy, lol, is malfunctioning.

In order too cool the laptop down, I put it on its side and blow the internal parts with compressed can air. Which brings the temps down below 50 degrees celsius. But it quickly gets back into the 50-55 red zone.

So I ordered a new fan and attached cooling fins part from China-Ebay.

I also ordered a fan base to put under the laptop to circulate the air better. I have the laptop on a cookie cooler rack right now, lol. So it is elevated off the table about a 1/2". But its better than sitting flat on the table. I'm thinking a new fan and air fan circulating pad should help a lot.

It feels like my Intel Pro/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection 2" square circuit board gets warm-hot, even tho my wireless seems to be working okay?

I won't really know for sure if the new fan will cure the overheating issue or not, but will find out soon enough? The air pad should also additionally help with dispersing the laptop heat.

Do you think I should be good with the new part/air pad, if not, any other suggestions/ideas would be appreciated? Thanks, Bill

55ºC is quite normal and it isn't critical. Critical CPU temp are above 80ºC.
How are you measuring the temperatures?
I use Open Hardware Monitor - Core temp, fan speed and voltages in a free software gadget

Normally what happens on old laptops is that the heat sink gets clogged with dust. The main problem is to clean it as in some laptops you have to disassemble almost all parts to get to the fan & heat sink.
A base with fans are a way to improve cooling.

I use Speccy free download for the below. My computer still runs in the 50-55 degree celsius range, but it has auto-shut down several times before. So I presume it had gone over the max range temp of 55 somewhere? Keep in mind my laptop is a 2009 model, 9 years old.

Below is my current Speccy stats.

Vista32toWin7, the data you gave from Speccy is only from the HDD. There is no CPU temp. You should find out the CPU and GPU temperatures.
Use HWiNFO - Download
It's a portable version. Don't need to install. Extract and run.

Havoc, unless you remove the heat sink from the CPU, thermal paste never needs to be replaced.

Well I got my cooling pad today and made a big difference right away! Temps went from the danger shut off zone 50-55 degrees celsius to 39-43 degrees celcius.

Its a Vencci DCX-18RED 4 fan model, got it from ebay, about $20-$21. You can feel the light cool air under the laptop with the fans on. As opposed to sitting on a cookie cooler tray I used temporally, lol. The table would get quite warm before with this setup.

The cooling pad has a roller fan speed switch which gives a brighter red color on the cooling pad as U increase the fan speed, pretty cool visual. Has several optional tilts U can put the laptop cooler in. So I'm good for now with the overheating.

I did order the fan part from China, its going to be awhile before I get it, maybe mid Oct. sometime. So the fan pad cooler is doing the trick for now. Hope the cooling fan helps out some more? The fan wasn't turning on when in the high heat zone of 50-55 celsius range?

I turned my computer on today mid-afternoon and my computer had turned itself on after I went to bed last night...? I have no clue why my computer does this? But the SSHD Seagate HD was at 55 degrees Celsius max temp for this computer? I mean you could feel the heat from the HD. I turned the airpad on it it quickly dropped back to norm temps. So lucky to have that to keep it cool.

Any ideas why my computer turns itself on after I turn it off in sleep mode? This has happened several times before and its not good as the temps can get high and auto-shut off happens sometimes.

Any ideas or suggestion on this issue welcomed.

Thanks, Bill.
