Hi all and thanks in advance for any help with this.

Computer is my sons Acer Aspire One D255 Netbook.
OS: Windows 7 Starter
1gig memory

Started getting BSOD in normal mode consistently. Safe Mode was working but after trying the system recovery (which fails), now Safe Mode won't boot either. I did collect the dumps and they are attached. I'm assuming hardware, since recovery won't work but was wondering if dump gives any idea as to what it is. Let me know if you need more info.

Thanks again,
Dave

Just to back up what Rich said. It is a hard disk issue. All but one of your crashes specifically blame your hard disk

Good stuff guys thanks for the info. and help. I think the one crash dump that doesn't indicate a problem with the HD is from a couple of months ago and was from something else.

I will see if I can run the diagnostics and let you know.

Good news is Netbook is still under warranty. :D Time to call Acer...

Unfortunately it's a Toshiba drive which doesn't appear to have any diagnostics tools. I did try the IBM/Hitachi drive fitness test from a USB drive, but for some reason it won't boot to it. I have it set as the 1st boot device in BIOS, and BIOS does recognize it, but it just won't boot to it.

What's interesting now is the 3rd try on a system recovery seems to have brought me back to factory. At least it's running for now but I don't imagine it will stay that way for long. You guys have any recommendations for a drive fitness test to run from within windows?

Update

Here is where I'm at...

  • Ran a full chkdsk. Don't think anything major found or fixed there.
  • Ran the Seatools tests. All but the long passed. Long did fail 2x.
  • Ran Passmark performance tests several times and all hard drive tests passed.
Right now after a factory restore I've installed all his apps, restored files, and done all Windows Updates and it seems to be running fine now. I'm still thinking there is an issue with the drive as this is the second time we've had to do this. I didn't get the dumps the first time but I do remember it was basically the same BSOD code.

Question, is it possible that some kind of drive corruption occurred due to software conflict, virus, etc... that made it appear to be a hard drive issue?

I still plan to contact Acer for possible Warranty repair/replacement.

Thanks again for all the help,
Dave

I will tell you this Dave, based upon all my experience, if the HD test that you took shows a problem, you should back up your stuff and invest in a new drive.

I do agree. :D Fortunately it's still under warranty so Acer will be footing the bill.

Thanks again guys,
