Acronis had a sale for $24.99 a few days ago so I bought 4 copies..

I have upgraded 2 copies of acronis 2010 to 2012 and so far It has installed on the two machines fine. The initial install on 2 and the upgrade on 2 went fine. I always try to do a complete restore and the two that I did it on worked fine.

I do like the email notification when a backup occurs (that first appeared in 2011) . I don't have any complaints.

The interface from 2010 to 2012 is really different and there are a lot more options.
But it takes a while to get used to it but the automatic backup seems to be fine.

Hi there -- I'm still using True Image workstation version 10 -- had much the best UI and things like changing backup options (compression level etc) were easy to find as well as making notes in the backup that you could describe such as Full Backup xxxx -- Photoshop trial installed - ).

It doesn't support USB3 so I'll have to switch eventually.

Note to get it to run on W7 or W8 change the name of the Timage.exe to TI.exe after you've installed it or it won't run because of "Compatability issues" and it won't make any difference if you say run this program in compatability mode either.

The stand alone (bootable version) works just fine.

I really didn't like the GUI changes in 2011/2012.

However 2011 is at least "usable" -- not sure about 2012 --or even what this release offers over 2011.

Apart from new Windows releases I tend to stick with older versions until they don't work anymore -- typical software upgrades usually include more bloat and functionality I neither need nor want -- just look at what happened with NERO -- although they've finally seen the error of their ways and got a "Free Ultra lite" version back again which basically does what most people wanted the program to do in the first place-- simply create / write CD's and DVD's. - Note that this doesn't work on W8 --it checks the OS version -- it will work on W7.

It seems Acronis likes e.g. Intuit's approach with Quicken--gotta make some serious GUI changes every year to get people to bite on upgrades.

But like Quicken, what Acronis TI does does not and should not change basically from one year to the next. Either it makes backups accurately or it doesn't--everything else is window dressing.

I have ATIH2010 and it does everything I need. I also have ATIH Netbook Edition which AFAIK has the ATI2011 GUI. I've owned many different ATI versions since rev 0 many years ago, and maybe like Quicken every time they release a new product it has some serious bugs to work out before it settles-down.

Well, I purchased ATIH 2012 (even going for the 3 license family pack) after reading some favourable reviews and mentions of the Acronis products - too late realizing that this apparently applied only to versions 2010 and earlier.

My experience with 2012 has been one huge disappointment. Granted one might get it successfully installed and running after jumping through all the hoops suggested in the "installation issues" thread at http://forum.acronis.com/forum/24547 but that does not inspire the confidence one should have in a product you entrust your vital data to. Also, after working with computers for several decades I for one don't have patience with a product that in this day and age requires all manners of workarounds to get it running.http://forum.acronis.com/forum/24547 , [COLOR=Black

I too have used Acronis since XP came out and Norton Ghost for Win 98.

I upgraded to ATI Home 2011 a few months ago and also hated the UI. I made a backup of my partitions on Windows 7, using the verify function. It seemed to verify too quickly and sure enough when I did a restore it wouldn't work.

Since then, I use a boot CD and do all my backups from that. I don't even have Acronis installed at all.

I haven't been game (or am afraid) to do a restore, but it does take a more realistic time to do the verify. I did do a backup and restore of the hidden Recovery partition though and it worked, so it may be okay.

They certainly upset a lot of people by changing the way things look and work. I find the UI terrible. At least by using the boot CD, I can do exactly what I want and not what the software wants!

When I saw they were bringing out the 2012 version, I thought "not on your Nelly!"

I have used 2012 on my laptop and I just restored my hard drive and it worked exactly as I had hoped it would.

There are a couple of gotcha's that you have to remember, if you image both the hidden partition which windows 7 initially puts on your boot drive as well as your C drive, you need to restore both of them and it works.

I agree the ui is not the smoothest but I can testify that it works fine. At least for my toshiba laptop with 80gig ssd and windows 7 ultimate. x64 of course.
