Active-X won't Work In IE

I am running Windows 7 Home Premium edition on an Acer 64-Bit Netbook using Internet Explorer 8.
When I access a Web page that requires an Active-X download the download seems to install fine, but will not work. I have enabled all Active-X controls, shut down the Windows Firewall, disabled antivirus software, and shut off PopUp blocker all to no avail. Any suggestions?

Are you running the 32bit version of iexplore.exe (iexplore.exe*32), or the 64bit version (iexplore.exe) as seen by the task manager?

Use the 32bit IE8 and all should be well.

Unless the activex controls are also 64bit (and I only know of Adobe Flash beta and Office 2010 x64's extensions), they'll fail to load. This is expected behavior, and precisely why the default browser on x64 windows is still 32bit.

Why do I have 65bit IE

I recently activated Office 2010 Home Premium edition on my new Acer 64bit Windows 7 machine. IE 64bit came with that version of Office. How can I get the 32bit version of IE? Will I have to pay for it or can I swap it for IE 64bit?

You have both in Win7. Has nothing to do with Office.

Click the Start> All Programs and there are two IE's listed. One is marked IE the other IE 64bit.

A bit confusing for me at first going from XP to Win7. Once I got the differnces set in my mind I like Win7 a lot better.
