Can someone help me get back my admin rights.
I have just one user on my pc , its as a standard user.
Whenever I try to make a change I get a UAC notice telling me to
enter a password , but there is no place for a password nor do I have any
passwords on my pc.
I can't go add or change users or user right cause I just get that same message.
thanks

See if you can activate this administrator, if you can set up a new administrator account for yourself and delete the problem one.

You can also use the adminsitrator to go back to good times with system restore.

See if you can get in with safe mode

Maybe you can change the password

The first option does not seem to apply to my version the home premium.
The second obviously can't be done without admin.
The third, I don't have a password on it.

Use option two
You do have the administrator in Home Premium

You could try the following
1. boot up from Hiren's BootCD 13.0, select "Mini Windows XP"
2. open Explorer and navigate to C:\Windows\System32\config, where you find the registry SAM file
3. open the SAM file with Regdatxp
4. right click the SAM folder in Regdatxp and apply "Enable Account" -> Administrator
When booting up again the Administrator account should be on the Welcome screen. Log on as Administrator, assuming it needs no password, and give your standard account admin rights. You should then disable the Administrator account again for security reasons.

Is the UAC actually asking you for a password? I've never seen it do that. Are you using the normal user/admin account? Or a true standard user account? (Something you created after install)

The default first user is the admin/user. (Normal user with the ability to elevate to admin level with a button click)

I believe that all it is doing iis asking your permission to perform the following action with administrator rights. You simply click OK and it continues on...

Yes it asks for a password but there is no place for one.
I must have done something that created the standard account,
now I can't find the admin one. You can't click OK, it has a yes or no but
only the no is active

Well the "administrator" account is deactivated as well as the anonymous user by default. But if you did a normal install then it asks you for a user name and that user becomes the admin/user.

Unless you went and created a second user for yourself then you /should/ have admin rights, just need to click through the UAC to activate them for a single instance.

However, the situation may be different on the home versions :(

You could search the site here for info on deactivating UAC entirely... see if you can hen perform the admin function you wanted. That is if your user is the actual first user account. Otherwise you will have to log into t that first uesr account to do anything admin related (including possibly activating the true administrator account).

View hidden files and folders, go to c:\users and tell us the list of users(folders) you have listed.

Unfortunately I can't do any of that.
That's the problem, I can't change or access any of those things.

The only time I've ever heard of this kind of thing happening is with a virus, I wouldn't doubt it, but I wouldn't know.

Maybe I'll think of something, best of luck

Problem solved, somewhat accidentally.
When my pc got hung up I turned it off with the power button.
Upon restart i started in safe mode and somehow it allowed me to switch users.
I just started in admin and voila. Thanks to those who responded.

By "stuff" what do you mean exactly? If you go into your C drive and go to Users, you should see a folder with the name of the other users, alot of your old information from the other accoutn will be in there, Ciao.

thanks, by stuff I meant all the programs I had in the standard user
account, cause when I opened the new admin account it was pretty bare.
No matter I just changed my standard account to admin so it's ok now.
On another note. When I turn on my pc it opens the page with the account name and pic,
can I skip that and go straight to my to my programs.
thanks again

There is a couple of way to avoid this screen your talking about. I can't tell exactly by not looking at your computer, but if you only have one account on your computer, and it is NOT password protected, it should go right into Windows. This is how my 7 is setup, at home.

This means-in essence-you could remove any other accounts, but if your unsettled about your knowledge of user profiles, you may not want to risk deleting the wrong one. If I remember correctly windows won't let you delete an account your already on.

I'm no guru, my expertise was in Computer Science not Information Technology, something I'm starting to learn in-depth now.
