Adobe Acrobat won't open on right screen anymore!

I've been using dual screens at my office for some years now. After installing Windows 7 Pro x64 last fall, I was pleased to find that for the most part, program windows would open in the same place and same size and on the same monitor as they were on when I last closed them.

Some weeks ago, I started having issues with a PDF file opening in Acrobat 8 Standard on my right screen (where I want it), but then any subsequent PDF file opened while the first one was open would go to the left screen (NOT what I want).

Now, as of about 2 weeks ago, after installing a new nVIDIA Quadro FX 580 graphics card and replacing the left display with a Dell Ultrasharp 24" display, ALL PDF files open on my left screen. This is completely annoying because I do most of my work on my left display (the 24") and I need PDF documents to open on the right.

Someone posted a tip one time about moving a program window where you want it, maximize it, restore it, then maximize it again, and close it, and it should remember the location. This has worked for the most part, but not for Acrobat.

Any ideas? I am NOT running the nVIDIA nView software because it was causing graphics issues with some other software I use. I used to use it to force certain programs to open on certain displays, but for the most part Win7 keeps stuff where I want it without needing nView. Acrobat is the main one giving me trouble, and it seemed to start some time after installing the new graphics card and display a few weeks ago.

I posted this in General because I wasn't sure if this was more of a graphics-related issue, or software, or something else.

I was not using Aero before the new graphics card, and now I am, so not sure if that could have any effect on Acrobat always opening on the left display.

Also the left display is connected via DisplayPort and the right display is connected via DVI.

Fix: Adobe Reader 9 on Win7 dual screens

My colleague Shan (I promised to mentioned her name) found out that you can set the default opening screen for Adobe Reader 9 on dual screens running Win7:

1) Open a pdf.

2) [Restore Down] the window.

3) move the window to the screen you want. [Maximize] the window if you want to.

Now you have set the default screen when Adobe Reader.

Yep, works with pretty much any program. If one finds a program is not opening on the desired monitor, perform the steps mentioned above. Just be sure to close the program while it is still on the desired monitor and don't forget to restore down the window before you move it.

That works for every program I have EXCEPT acrobat. It might be the latest ATI drivers but I have a feeling it is a glitch elsewhere as I have many people asking me for help on this and I doubt they all have ATI video cards and the lastest drivers.

Still having this problem even on a new machine with Acrobat X Standard. I first installed Acrobat Reader 9 up until installing Acrobat X today, and both had the same issue.

There is a setting to remember the place in a document, which will bring a document back up on the same page I was on before, as well as the same screen location (regardless of other PDF docs open), but it also seems to make Acrobat slower. Plus it only works on docs I have opened before. Other PDF docs still open on the left screen if I already have one open on the right screen.

Try using the Windows 7 Snap feature to snap the open Adobe window to the side you want it to open on. Then close it from that side. None of the other former processes worked for me, but this did.

Nope, Snap doesn't work at all on this issue. If I open a PDF and it opens on the right screen, then Snap to make it fill the entire right screen, then open a 2nd PDF, it and also any additional PDF's ALWAYS open on the left screen, maximized. If I restore the PDF on the right down to its previous size, it will open at that size, and again any 2nd or more PDF's open on the left side with the same window size as the first PDF window.

Win Explorer, Firefox, Outlook emails, etc ALWAYS open on the right screen, no matter how many instances of them I open. But for some reason Adobe Acrobat is the only program that exhibits this behavior.

Yes, thank you for this post. Snapping to the side was the only thing that worked for me, too, with Adobe Acrobat (10.x).

Hi All I don't know if you solved your problem but here is a great simple solution.

Open the application(Acrobat), resize the window, then move it to second monitor. Then click Xwithout expanding it to fill the window. Launch it again. It will be small.Expand it to fill the screen. Then close it. Now it should stick to the secondmonitor.

No, that doesn't work at all. It doesn't matter what combination of maximizing and minimizing I do, if one PDF is open on the right screen, the 2nd and all subsequent PDF's ALWAYS, ALWAYS open on the left screen, no matter what.

It's 2017 and I have a newer custom-built rig and it's STILL doing this. And it's STILL super annoying.
