Adobe Air is an additional utility, it doesn't replace Adobe Flash Player.

The link I gave you explains what Adobe Air is and does. Have you opened the link and read the contents?

If you feel you don't need Adobe Air, just uninstall it.

Some computer manufacturers install Adobe Air routinely at the factory. (HP and Sony seem to install a lot of bloatware.) As seavixen said, it's OK to uninstall it. It was on my Sony Vaio and after about a month of finding out I didn't need it I uninstalled it. My machine is working just fine without it. If you find some program that needs to use Adobe Air it will prompt you and provide a link to reinstall it. Just as an example, most Windows 7 machines come pre-installed with Microsoft's Silverlight but very few things actually need Silverlight.

As an aside, you may want to upgrade your Adobe Flash to the latest version to avoid possible security issues with your machine. You have to use the Adobe Uninstaller first and then install the new version. Don't forget to UNcheck the option to install the Google Toolbar or Google Chrome (it changes) if you don't want it.

The latest version of Adobe Flash is 11.0.1.152 and is in my second link. To avoid system problems you should use the Adobe Flash uninstaller (first link) and not try to uninstall the old version from Control Panel > Programs and Features.

Silverlight is another media player similar to Flash and is compiled by Microsoft.

As far as I'm aware the latest Adobe Flash Player 32-bit version is 10.1 and the latest Adobe Flash Player 64-bit version is 11.

Sometimes the uninstall application in Control Panel > Programs and Features leaves behind "bits and pieces" of the program you're trying to uninstall. That could prevent a newer version of the program from installing correctly. Since each company knows exactly how their program is coded and how it installs in the operating system, they can build an uninstaller that removes all of those "bits and pieces". Adobe is not the only company that has uninstallers. Many makers of antivirus programs, drivers, etc also have uninstallers.

It depends which version of Internet Explorer you are using.

Windows 7 ships with Internet Explorer 32-bit and Internet Explorer 64-bit so you need the 32-bit version of Flash for the former and the 64-bit version of Flash for the latter.

I'm at work using a Windows XP computer (32-bit.) The latest Adobe Flash installed on this machine is 11.0.1.152. At the Adobe Flash download page you can click on "Are you using a different browser" and a new window will appear. Step 1: Select your operating system; Step 2: Select either Flash 32 bit or Flash 64 bit, Version 11.
