My firewall recently requested to allow aepdu.dll to make registry changes and I blocked it with my Comodo firewall. In checking the internet, I find as many postings that this is malicious trojan as I do find that it's a normal Window process. I am running Widows 7 and my Comodo anti-virus, Superantispyware, and Malwarebytes, don't pick up anything unusual. There are 10 instances of aepdu.dll and 2 instances of aepdu.dll.mui on my computer, mostly in the Windows System32 and Winsxs folders. Is this a legit item, a trojan and can should I remove it from the computer?

A legitimate aepdu.dll is part of Windows program compatibility data updater. Malware may try to disguise itself as a legitimate process, program, etc. I'd follow Shimshom's suggestion to run multiple anti-malware scans. If they come back clean then you probably have a legitimate aepdu.dll file.

Aepdu.dll - What is aepdu.dll? - Program Compatibility Data Updater

This previous Seven Forums thread talks about the aepdu.dll file.

Thanks everyone. I have run all the scanners and nothing shows up, so I guess all is good. Chuck

Glad it it came up clean. It's getting more scary out there and too many sharks swimming in that big internet pond so always good to have as many opinions as possible about various files, processes and the rest. Would be great if you can mark this post as solved
Regards
Shimon
