After changing network adapter shares are not reachable anymore

Guess I'm overlooking something but Windows 7 shares are also still annoying me.

I added an extra NIC to my pc since the original NIC has some troubles every now and then. I have one (good old plain) share on my pc that can be accessed by my media player (NMP).

However the share is not visible anymore if I activate the new NIC and disable the old NIC (it's not visible on my NMP and not on e.g. my Windows 7 laptop)

I would assume it would be easy to replace a network card, I checked the advanced settings, for both NIC's the location is Home. I can't find any setting that suggests has something to do with the particular NIC.

Hope someone can get me in the right direction.

Well, the thing is, even if i create a new share on the pc and set all permissions correctly it's not visible.

Even worse, if I enable the new NIC and disable the old NIC and I try to access my pc from my laptop I get the error 'Windows cannot access \\revolution'. Error code 0x80070035 Network path not found. So it seems it doesn't even see the server and it is not about the share themselves probably, same result if I use the IP-address instead.

As far as I can see both NICs have the same settings but I feel I'm missing something regarding this, anyway I would assume that changing a NIC would be that fuzzy.

make sure you include the new adapter's ip address in any third party software's trusts (firewalls or AVs), as well as consider any filtering based on mac addresses that you may have on the network.

That error code is typical when there is a third party firewall blocking Windows sharing. I suggest you either allow for the range of IP's you are using through it's firewall or disable your A/V software or third party firewall.

  • no 3rd party firewall
  • Windows Firewall is off
  • AV is turned off
  • Both NIC have location 'Home', so should use same settings I would presume
  • DHCP address or fixed address doesn't change a thing
  • If new NIC is enabled (and old NIC is disabled) I can use RDP from laptop, using pc-name, to my pc
  • NetBIOS over TCP/IP is enabled on both NICs
  • Still not a clue

so, from what I read (correct me if i'm wrong) - you added another nic to the machine (not replace the nic)... sounds like you switch between them? If at one time you had both of these nics enabled at the same time, the new nic would take a different gateway than your current NIC.

You said you tried DHCP on the nic, can you check to ensure your gateway is identicle?

Well, actually i want to replace the old on-board NIC since it's not reliable anymore. But since with the new NIC the shares don't work I switch between them now just for testing.

Gateways are set to the same gateway on both NICs, I had them both set to static addresses now.

yeah, multiple times.

It's the most silly thing I've ever came across with Windows. It's gotta be something silly and yet simple I guess...

Still looking for any clue of what this might be. I'm still not able to get shares to work on the new NIC....
