After trying to uninstall IE 11 I cannot reinstall IE at all

I think I finally got all of the right files!

I've uploaded a file - inuaa.zip - to my OneDrive at Noel's OneDrive
Please download and save it.
Right-click on the downloaded file, and select Extract all…
Extract to the default location - which will create a new folder inuaa in the same place.
Open this folder - there should be one folders inside it (Packages)

Copy the content of the Packages folder to the folder
C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing\Packages

Now run the CheckSUR tool again (it may take a while)

Post the new CheckSUR.log file, and the CheckSUR.persist.log file.

Hi Noel,

I am sorry to give you such a hard nut to crack (doesn't it confirm my point that there are some strange issues if such an important tool like IE cannot be easily repaired or re-installed :) ?). I will await your further advice. Thank you very much anyway.

Hi Noel,

actually there was no post when I checked it and sent you my last message. after you asking whether I saw your last post, only then it appeared and seemed to have been posted 3 days earlier, very strange.

Anyway, I did what you advised and the persistent log file seems to indicate that there is no more problem.

CheckSUR is happy, at least - what happens with Windows Update now?
Do a Check for Updates, and attempt to install only the oldest found update - what error message do you get (if any)?

There were 4 updates, 2 of which failed, but after a while they all worked. IE 11 is in the list of "updates", but it still does not work. It does not show on the desktop or in the start menu. If I try to open iexplore.exe it only opens an empty page without any menus or buttons. Shall I uninstall IE 11 and try to reinstall it?

I tried to run the manual IE 11 installation, but could not do it, because it says a more recent version was found on my computer. I tried to "uninstall" IE 11 in Windows Update, but it fails. I tried to turn IE 11 off, but this also fails.

In summary, while the CBS does not indicate any problems any longer, I still am totally unable to get IE working.

There may still be residuals - but the next step may be a little more drastic.

Please run a full SFC and CheckSUR again, and post the logs - I'll see if anything hits me before we think about attempting to uninstall IE11

Hmm - that's error-free so no clues there :(
CheckSUR is also clear.

Please post the C:\WIndows\IE11_Main.log file - I'll see if that gives me any inspirations.

Hi Noel,

here is the IE log file and the one I found in the folder for IE9. I also attached the iexplorer.exe file, in case it gives you additional useful information.

Yes, I noticed that the reason seems to be that there is a more recent version installed, but why does it not show anywhere and why can I still not uninstall IE11? Do you think there is anything else that can be done? Can I find out which files are of the "wrong" version?

Hi Noel,

I did what you said, but I got error messages I think for every single line in the elevated command prompt. One of the error codes was different, saying that the referenced assembly was not found.
After restart IE11 still shows and still can neither be switched off or uninstalled using the normal ways.

I attach the CBS.log, because I think it shows a number of failures that may make more sense to you more than it does to me.

Hi Noel,

I tried that also, but I got the message that there is no problem.

I also got into a remote control session with Microsoft Technical Support, but that was most disappointing and I consider it almost a scam. They looked a bit around on my laptop, did all the things we did already and ran a scanner after which they told me that I might have a virus on my laptop and I should by a license for almost 100 USD for a tool to scan and clean my computer. The scan he did, it did not show any infections at all and I have fully licensed Bitdefender AV Plus 2015 and Comodo nternet Security Pro. All that their scan showed were some moderately "dangerous" cookies.

Anyway, I guess the final conclusion is that it is not possible to repair, uninstall or re-install IE11 on my computer anymore and therefore I will give up on it and use Firefox instead. Microsoft has some flaws in their system that makes it even impossible to repair one core component.

Thank you very, very much for all your great efforts and the time you invested in helping me. I appreciate your support a lot.

All the best,

Ingo
