Error code 9C48 when trying to install IE 11 update

I am running Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium x64 SP1 and everytime I try to install IE11 from Windows update it gives me the 9C48 error. I've tried downloading and installing the IE 11 standalone installer but it keeps giving an error that "Setup cannot continue because a more recent version of Internet Explorer is installed on your computer".

I have been searching Google and these forums and I noticed people attach their CBS and checkSUR logs after running sfc /scannow, so I am doing that as well in hopes of someone being able to help.

I have tried so many different fixes, CheckSUR, subinacl, MS Hot fixes, uninstalling IE11 etc. I hope someone is able to help. Thanks in advance for your help. :o

This was in the last POQ processed in the uploaded CBS.log, which was only 1/6th of the way through the scan.

Your best option is a repair install - and I think you'd better check your hard drive first, as one of the likely causes for such corruption is a failing drive.

Thanks for your response.

I have checked the HDD with a SMART tool and it didn't find any errors.

What is the correct process to do a repair install and still retain all installed programs and user profile settings?

SMART is actually very DUMB - and frequently gives both false positives and false negatives.
There are actually few utilities which can be relied upon to give no false positives - and even less which don't give false negatives.

You need to run either/or/both CHKDSK and the manufacturer's HD test utility, and see what the results are.
