I've been working on some 3d work. Tried to save a file and the program crashed saying it didn't have access to a particular folder (after months of working in the same folder btw). So I checked out the folder and it has a 'read only' attribute. Even if I de-check the 'read only' (using the highest level parent and all its subs/files)....it has the 'read only' attribute back again when I directly re-open the properties. I've tried restarting my pc, but same deal.

Any ideas why? I haven't installed anything in weeks.

Hello BleepingCrazy,

Just to point out, folders themselves cannot be marked as read-only. When read-only is checked on a folder's properties page, read-only is applied to all of the files in the folder instead. You could try Option two in METHOD TWO of the tutorial below to remove the read-only attribute to see if that may help.
How does it work if you use run as administrator on the program?

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Thanks for the quick reply Shawn, trying to get some work finished on a Saturday dead-line sucks. Sorry, yes I meant the folder contents as opposed to the folder itself. Turns out it was the 3d program gone a bit hay-wire, regardless of where I was trying to save the rendered image. (had to delete the programs prefs and let it rebuild them)

Option 2 in method 2 was what I was trying before. but after opening the properties page, it keeps showing the blue box instead of an empty box...still a bit weird no?

Thanks again for the quick response! (I nearly had no nails left to chew...lol) :)

LOL, I hear that. I'm happy to hear that you got it sorted. :)
