[Solved] All Icons without any images, only text !!

With seven 32-bit Windows ...
-Explorer can not find the icons and start very slowly.
-Start Menu is inaccessible
- Desktop icons are in place but without images.

Iconcache.db deleted
It does not rebuild.
Finally, I created iconcache.db. It remains empty.

If I copy explorer.exe in explorer2.exe, explorer2.exe quickly launched and displays all icons.

Already done:
- I tried several tools to regenerate Iconcache.db unsuccessfully until now.
- Sfc /scannow
- chkdsk /f /r

In the photo on my desk the following can be seen:

- The icons on the desktop without images, text only.
- Explorer.exe without icons (window center)
- Explorer2.exe (identical copy of explorer.exe) with icons (right window)

Have you installed any 3rd party software for modifying icons, such as "microangelo"? If so, try uninstalling the software as a solution.

If not, I would suggest running MBAM (MalwareBytesAntiMalware). You can download it from the following site;
http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free
(be sure to select the "free" edition)

PB completely solved!
Thank you for your prompt and judicious aid.

The repair solution on-site update I liked as a last resort,
but I finally got to solve everything, ie:
-images of icons missing on desktop
-images of icons missing in exploring
-Blue screen crash when right click on a partition.
-slow explorer.exe

Solution that worked with me:
I went in -> HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ explorer \ Shell Icons
A sub-type REG_SZ key 29 was empty.
I gave the value C:\Windows\System32\shell32.dll,29

Well, that's all!
Glad to get out of the PB properly.
And thanks again for your help.

I had to make an account to thank this user.
Their fix worked for me and I don't feel as though all is lost any more.

I had the same issues:

1) Start menu unresponsive
2) Slowed down operation
3) Many icons missing from taskbar
4) Most significantly, All desktop icon pictures were missing and only their names were showing.

I searched for the better part of 3 days to find a solution and I was about to give up.

1) system restore didn't work.
2) making a new user profile to replace a "corrupted" one didn't work
3) antivirus, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, ccleaner, super antispyware, glary registry repar etc didn't work.
4) doing a clean boot didn't work.
5) safe mode was pointless.
6) online Microsoft support automatic fixes didn't work
7) task manager -> end explorer process -> then restart explorer didn't work
8) finding the iconcache file and deleting it didn't work.
BUT THIS DID!!

Just to be clearer....

Hold the 'windows key' on your keyboard and press 'r' to open up the 'run command'
Type 'msconfig' and press OK
Choose the tools tab at the top and scroll down till you find 'Registry editor'. Launch it.
From there do as the OP says.

<<<< HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ explorer \ Shell Icons
A sub-type REG_SZ key 29 was empty.
I gave the value C:\Windows\System32\shell32.dll,29>>>>>

In my case, the name of the string was '9' not '29'.
Double click it and copy and paste the following into the value data section.

C:\Windows\System32\shell32.dll

Press OK and you should see a change immediately.

After restarting the computer everything is still as it should be.
The changes I made to the registry didn't stay. I don't know why.

Thank you, Mircow

Thank you for the solution! I also have Windows 10 and this solution works just as well. It's a specific issue where the icons disappear but the text remains, and refreshing the desktop, changing the icon view, rebuilding the icon cache etc etc do NOT work.
