all pgms when started from start btn displays shortcut info in Notepad

I was mucking about in the services and user/links directory. I have no idea what I did wrong.

Anyway ... when I launch ANY program from the start button menu, instead of the program launching, its shortcut info displays inside Notepad. Also, the icon for ALL programs is the Notepad icon.

If I start a program by navigating to it, e.g., C:\Programs\Adobe ..., the program launches fine. Therefore, it is not any of the applications. The problem is only when the programs are launched from the start menu.

I am really scratching my head over this one.

I hope someone can help me.

Restore Default Windows 7 File Extension Type Associations

Try a System Restore. Should restore those settings!
