All Software Downloads as 'Disc Image Files'

Hi guys,

I just got my computer reset to factory settings (MS 8 upgrade pilled bugs onto my laptop). It's working well now but when I download new software (MS office, Adobe etc.) they display as 'Disc Image Files' under the 'Type' column in my files.

When I try to double click them to install them my computer just prompts me to burn them and nothing else. I can burn them to disc and then install them but this isn't normal and I've just downloaded software that won't fit on my discs.

Does anyone know how to return to the usual method of installation? Am I missing some sort of driver that was lost when wiping my laptop?

Welcome to the forum.

What are the rightmost three letters after the period, e.g. .iso, .exe, .jpg, et al.? It may be the format in which your system saves the download. Or the default program associations are screwed up, particularly with .exe.

They're saving as .ISO

All downloads should be saved in the format they are offered. A program installer would be offered in .exe, .msi et al.

What browser is used to access these offered downloads? In terms of the dialogue boxes encountered, is there a point where one can change the format one can save the download as? For example, a web page can be saved as a complete .html, just the html portion, or as a text file. In other words, there ought to be options offered during the downloads dialogues, .iso being one of many. I made the mistake of changing the options one time to just the html portion, and I robotically kept saving pages in that fashion until I tried to access the download. That's when I found out about the changed option.
