Solved All USB Ports running very slow

For some reason, the USB stick I have been using has been going really slow on my computer, about 6-7mb/s. I have tried on all of my usb ports, some of which are 2.0 USB ports, and some are 3.0 USB ports. I have most if not all of the important drivers installed from the site, but they have had no effect on the speed of the USB stick. The weirdest part is that the USB stick runs perfectly fine on my friends weaker computer, it goes about 20-24mb/s, so it's not the USB stick. What can I do to make the speed go faster?

Maybe in your bios you have enabled only USB 1.1 instead of faster interfaces, check in there if you have set your USB as 3.0, 2.0 or a combination (like for example 1.1+2.0+3.0... some mobos support this...)

I checked the bios, and there seems to be no USB 1.1/2.0/3.0 options

Have you tried resseting the BIOS to its defaullt settings? (just in case you have configured anythng there...)

Perhaps your A/V (or another watchdog program you have on your computer) is doing an on-demand scan of the files being copied and is slowing down the transfer.

I checked both the bios and the antivirus (i only have Microsoft Security Essentials) and there seemed to be nothing wrong with them. I did manage to increase the speed of the usb by changing it from quick remove mode to maximum performance (something like that) within the properties menu. It could just be the usb stick being bad, considering my external hard drive goes perfectly fine.

So, it's just one USB stick and not USB in general, then? If it's just one USB stick, then I think that pretty much narrows down the issue.

Sometimes USB sticks are very tricky, in my laptop, my 8GB Kingston 100 Datatraveler has several issues in copiying files itnto it, while in other PC's go just fine, another ADATA 8 GB works flawlessly in all PC's I connect the device...

Yea it's the USB stick itself. I just tried my brothers 16GB USB Stick and it is a rocket compared to mine. What really puzzled me was why it was running fine on my friends computer but not mine. Thanks for the help!

I realize this is a very late addition but....

Something I have come across may NOT help but will give you information you can use.


I have a Windows 10 x64 system. I have three USB v2 hubs and one USB v3 hub. The USB v3 hub works without a problem. The USB v2 hub goes at about 1Mb/s. As you may know - this is not right.


It has taken me days to find out exactly what is going on but will probably take me a lot longer to figure out how to correct the problem. So first - the REASON this is happening:


If you go to MajorGeeks and down load USBTree it will tell you everything about your USB set up.

When I run it I see:

Note the yellowed area. That is the USB 2.0 hub. Now here is a part of the information USB Tree provides. THIS IS THE REALLY IMPORTANT PART!

Note that USB Tree says the USB 2.0 HUB ONLY SUPPORTS USB 1.1. And THAT is why
it is running at around 1Mb/s. Windows 10 does NOT see this device as a USB 2.0 HUB.
It thinks it is a 1.1 hub.

I am going to try writing the company (in China of course) and see if they can issue
an update for the device.

So what else am I trying to say? Get USB Tree. It is the one piece of software that
can tell you ALL about your USB's setup.
