Each and every page I open on Amazon in firefox brings my browser to a halt for over a minute. It appears to be loading scripts or modules, as the tab keeps circling and stopping and circling as it's trying to load. This happens over and over repeatedly until the page finally starts working as normal. What could be causing this to happen? It's the only site that gives me an issue like this, and it's been happening for months now. Chrome handles Amazon fine.

Spinning circle - usually means a problem add on. Try running FF with add ons disabled and see if the page loads okay. If it loads okay then we know where to start looking.

See:

How to start Firefox in Safe Mode

Also try installing this add on and see if there's any sign of obviously high memeory usage from any particular add on when you've got that page open in a tab.

Okay, so I just started firefox in safe mode with add-ons disabled, and Amazon loads fine.

I did notice that the address in the tab flickers a whole bunch of times as the page loads images, etc. - this is the same thing that happens with add-ons enabled, but it seems each time Amazon tries to load another element of the page, an add-on gets in the way.

Get yourself a copy of MozBackup

Backup your profile (bookmarks and extensions) and also manually copy your Profiles folder and profiles.ini file to a new folder on your desktop.

Uninstall Firefox and remove your existing Profile Data:

Removing user profile data (after uninstalling Firefox it might get left behind)

This step is only recommended if you want to completely remove Firefox from your system, and you do not want to save any of your data. This will remove your Firefox user profile data, which includes bookmarks, passwords, cookies, preference settings and added extensions.

Rename (or delete) the Firefox folder in the default profile path (or move it to a backup location). For example, on Windows 7, press "Windows key + R" to open the Run box
(or, you can click "Start → Run..." on Windows XP). In the Run box, type in %APPDATA% and click OK, then open the "Mozilla" folder and rename the "Firefox" folder.

Caution: Make sure that you rename or delete the entire Firefox profile folder, which includes the profiles.ini file that keeps track of profiles. Do not simply rename or delete the profile folder that contains your user data, as doing so can result in a profile cannot be loaded or a "profile in use"/"already running" message when you next attempt to run Firefox (bug 278860).

Uninstalling Firefox - MozillaZine Knowledge Base

Reboot and run Ccleaner. Fresh install Firefox.

Check memory usage after the freash install.

Then restore only your bookmarks and extensions using MozBackup.
