CD/DVD drives slow loading

Goodday Folks:

Both of my cd/dvd drives have a problem and I suspect it is somewhere in the Windows 7 coding. This problem has just cropped up since I reinstalled my O/S although the functionality of both were deteriorating prior to the reinstallation.
When attempting to reload my copied files the drives take an exceptionally long time to load and when they do over half the icons are missing. Many times it takes three or four attempts on each drive before the disk is even recognized. I just get the "Install a Disk" message. The format function only operates on a hit or miss basis. Since this a problem with both the internal and external drives the problem must lie in the software.

So, I turn to you good folks who have solved the other problems I have encountered. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried a commercial CD? From your post it sounds like you have only used burned discs.

Depending on the burn method you used, if you used CD-RW discs and "packet writing" (Nero "InCD", "drag to disc", etc) that is the most unreliable disc burning method and can be a cause of your loading problems. Only use CD-R's and a regular CD burning program.

CD-RW discs are the most unreliable and have been known to lose data.

Sorry, I should have been more clear. My issue is only with DVD-RW disks. CDs work fine. You are correct that the problem is only with disks that I have burned previously. What I want to find out is why this is occurring now when these same disks have been running for years on this same computer and O/S.

RW discs.

Try the disc(s) on a different PC and see if the same thing happens. If it does then its the discs and not your PC.
