Amazon Prime Same-Day Delivery just got faster

Since launching Prime in 2005, we’ve continued to make advancements to our delivery options in order to bring members new levels of convenience. This effort has resulted in the current evolution of Prime Two-Day Delivery to a One-Day promise, and the introduction of new programs like Amazon Day, where Prime members can choose a day of the week to receive all their orders.

We’ll continue working to improve Prime delivery to meet members’ needs, which is why today we’re announcing that we’re making our Same-Day Delivery program even faster. Prime members in Philadelphia, Phoenix, Orlando, and Dallas can now enjoy faster Same-Day Delivery—from click to doorstep in just a few hours.

Up to 3 million items across dozens of categories that are marked “Today by” can now be ordered for delivery throughout the day—all with the goal of giving Prime members the most convenient shopping experience in retail while saving them time and money. Members can also order as late as midnight and have their orders on their doorstep the next morning before heading out for the day by selecting the “Overnight by 8am” delivery option. If a customer selects to have their order delivered overnight, drivers will arrive between 4:30am-8am, which is noted on the product detail page and again at checkout.

Making so many daily deliveries across such a large selection of products isn’t an easy job. We’re able to do so by storing need-it-today items in brand new facilities we built even closer to customers. These are first-of-their-kind buildings and serve as mini-fulfillment centers optimized for faster click-to-delivery speeds. And while it may seem counterintuitive, the faster delivery speeds enabled by these facilities actually help us lower carbon emissions in line with our Climate Pledge to be net zero carbon by 2040—10 years ahead of the Paris Agreement. This is because these new facilities are in close proximity to customers, reducing the need for aircraft transport and generally decreasing the distance drivers have to travel to deliver packages to our customers.

It may feel like magic when a package arrives so quickly, but it’s our incredible employees who come together to deliver these experiences for customers every day. Decades of process improvement and innovation enable us to provide a positive and safe work environment for everyone working in these new buildings so we can continue to delight customers—not by working harder, but by working smarter.

Each new building we open to make Same-Day Delivery even faster will create hundreds of part-time and full-time jobs. In addition, this expansion enables more opportunities for Amazon Flex delivery partners to choose work that fits their schedule and earn great pay while delivering Same-Day packages on behalf of Amazon.

Of course now that we are out of the EU Amazon's cost will rise as they will not have access to european migrant workers

The first time I used Amazon sameday service was the day the Nintendo Switch was launched, I had the whim and it was delivered to my door two hours later....very dangerous

And just today I read that an Amazon employee in Washington state contracted coronavirus and the article was about whether you can get the virus via packages.

I've read that the other forms of coronavirus were able to stick around on surfaces for at least 6 days. YMMV though, I'm not a doctor, biologist, scientist, etc, etc.

They're not. I was thinking of applying for the job, as there's a warehouse not far away, till I read reviews from workers and former workers. They're treated like dirt. If you don't make your quota, they'll murder your family.

I like Amazon for there stuff they have for sale..

I don't own a car so I have to ask a friend or brother to bring me food shopping....
and for my PC for example I built it off of amazon where I bought the individual parts...

Amazon has killed many thousands of other businesses. They have grueling schedules for their workers and they don't allow them to join unions. If you have to order online, consider ordering from somewhere else. Ebay usually has competitive prices and free shipping. I use the "Buy it Now," not the auctions.

aah.. ok as it happens to be..my mother worked at the SEARS auto center in my area from 1987 to 2007...
I miss her as much as I miss the store I guess...

You can look at these changes as a bad thing for some workers, which of course it is, or you can look at it as the natural progression of the way the world shops. Back 70 or 80 years ago the small family store (here in the UK these could be a terraced house converted into a store, or a specialist building on the corner), these were replaced by the large department store, these were in their turn replaced by the infamous Superstore, the huge out of town stores with a group of other stores with thousands of car parking spaces, as cars became the normal transport here, these can be compared to the US Mall.

These days everything is Internet based so of course, the shopping, an essential task for modern living has moved there also.

The ones I feel sorry for are the staff of the bricks and mortar, stores of any size, that people will visit and compare items and then take out their smartphone and order the item they like best for delivery from amazon, eBay or other online system. makes financial sense for the consumer, but not good for the local salesperson relying on commission
