AMD Catalyst Intall Error Messages

Please know that I "did not" use Driver Sweeper (now Driver Fusion). I started with # 1 and worked my way through the long list. I do this every time there's a new AMD Driver Update and/or update to CCC. Like I said; it's extensive, but it definitely works. Amazing how much stuff remains even after the normal uninstall process.

Oh yeah.... Good call jr48az

I forgot about Driver Fusion (previously known as Driver Sweeper) - it works
Download from author's site: Treexy - Software for everyday use

Got the Pro version Bill, works a treat, just a bummer this is giving me what I think are now system problems, got a couple of ideas up my sleeve for today, so watch this space ha ha.

jr, very good guide that, came to a stop on Step 7 though as there is an AMD folder there with the PCI bus drivers in it I read you should leave alone, BUT....
I found this :- Forum - Technical & Account Support - AMD Users, Update Your PCI Bus Driver - Path of Exile
Checked mine and yep had the bog standard Microsoft ones installed.
So that folder CAN be deleted, you just update the PCI ones by pointing the update to the right place.
C:\AMD\Support\13-12_win7_win8_64_dd_ccc_whql\Packages\Drivers\amdkmpfd\W764A
or when you are updating, choose "Browse for driver software on your computer" click the "Include subfolders" box, and aim it at the C:\AMD\Support\13-12_win7_win8_64_dd_ccc_whqlfind folder and it'll find them on it's own.
So something new, but not a solution to my problem.
Off to try a few other tricks.
Mick C.

The free version works just as well (I guess - never had the pro version).
A few notes:
  • I only suggest free SW - I don't think I ever recommended someone pay for something they can get for nothing.
  • If I suggest SW that is unfamiliar to someone, I expect that person to ask about it or read the documentation.
  • I normally give more instruction, not necessarily better, but definitely more.
  • I have trouble spelling teh word 'the'
So much for my expectations, eh wot.

I'm not sure the documentation would have helped in this case though, unless it said
"Only choose the AMD/ATI drivers" :p

I should have stated the above when I suggested Driver Fusion, but you seem like a fairly sharp fellow. Who knows, maybe that's exactly what you did specify. Maybe the pro version does some extra work.

Anyway......

Driver Fusion does a good job cleaning up after uninstalling OEM driver.
A simplified procedure might be
  • Unistall through normal channels
  • Run Driver Fusion to clean up
Select only and all the drivers related to the device you're trying to clean up (AMD, Nvidia, etc)
Does Driver fusion leave the folders and registry keys? Folders maybe, some registry keys perhaps. But it does (or did the last time I used it) get the important stuff out of the way so you can reinstall a driver.

Understand your point on the free stuff Bill. bought into the Pro one when they switched from Driver Sweeper to Driver Fusion, thought I'd support a good thing.

Well this morning's efforts were extensive and fruitless again.... :(
Tried some combo things... Including your suggestion, of uninstall then DF.
Last one I had the Windows VGA driver in... Lego fonts again...
I cleared EVERYTHING AMD/ATI from hard drives and registry.
No joy though. Exactly the same errors came up.
I've a feeling when the Auto download from the AMD site crashed my system, something broke.
Mulling over the idea of a Windows repair install, don't fancy it just now though as I'll have to re-install so much stuff. But maybe I'll try that at the weekend.
I've never had an Install program fail to be able to read or write to my C:\ drive before, that in itself is something very puzzling.
Oh just in case anyone thinks about it, all Virus stuff / Firewall etc. were OFF.
Might well have to dig out the shiny hologram Frisbee, but not today.

Dinner calls,
Mick

What's that? No fruit today!

You might try http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1538-sfc-scannow-command-system-file-checker.html if you think your system files were affected.

Virus / firewall off... maybe you caught a cold :)

You truned them back on after trying the install right? :sarc:

Fruit ? That's healthy stuff my doctor keeps banging on about, looks pretty at first,
but then it goes all weird and mushy, am I supposed to eat it ?

I'll run the scannow before bedtime Bill, rather have a cookie and a cuppa though.
Cold, don't think so, box is silent on the floor, no snuffling noises....
Cripes did I ?? Ha Ha, Oh yes, all turned back on.
Is there something wrong with your keyboard, you sure you got an English one and not some cheap Korean rip off ? [I see the nutters really going to town out there.]
:focus: Err, is the topic still valid ?
I think my Windows is broke, will get the putty out the weekend.

Well boys and girls, having gone to the wall on this one, and even done a repair install of Windows things are still the same.
I presume there is still something amiss either with my system, or the CCC install suite doesn't like me
But as I've been able to get the latest drivers loaded and solved a scaling problem on my digital TV, I'm going to call it a day on this. Can't say it's a solved problem, just one not worth spending anymore time on.
Thanks to everyone who chipped in with ideas and suggestions :D
Bill, if you are lurking, Chocolate Cake today :p
Regards to all,
Mick C.

Chocolate Cake today - I'm alergic to chocolate, but I love chocolate.

Thanks, cut me a large slice and if there's any milk, perhaps some chocolate syrup.....

Good call on "You've done all you can". All I can add is that it's not you or your system. It might be us and our systems.....

Retirement is a blast if you find something to do all day :)
I think your mentioned retirement - I might be thinking of another thread or member.
Naps in the afternoon are just one of the benefits.

I'll see you around "town".
