AMD - Display driver stopped working and has recovered

The secondary cores will kick in automatically once you have a good load on the cpu itself. Generally unlocking a cpu is mainly overclocking it! :D

I didn't go directly to Antec to see if there any higher wattage model in that series but knew it wouldn't be likely being their lower line. The TPs are their higher powered series going upto 850w. For the most part however you want to see just what your total requirements will be as well as picking out one with good amps seen on the rails and known as a stable brand to see one with good regulation.

When creating a new array you need two or more identical drives depending on the type of array to start with. Just because you have two or more drives installed doesn't mean "You Must Have" an array! Whoever told you that is way off base! :sarc:

The most widely used purpose at this time for arrays in general is typically server or storage. But they can be fragile in the home user situation as well. One reason I run two storage drives is for backing up one with the other in part as well as some difference in the files being stored between them.

As for using different makes or even different model series by the same manufacturer that would never be advised for any array being planned. Having different makes and models as individuals however shouldn't make any difference except for having a good supply to cover the extras you install.

Ah, interesting. I've the Black Edition Phenom II X2, and was thinking of trying to unlock the extra cores.

So Basiq is their lower tier line? Seems like they'll do for lower budget builds though. Nifty.

So an array requires two or more of the same drive, but using multiple drives individually does not require the same make/model of HDD. Got i. Thank goodness for that, as I kept hearing "YOU HAVE TO HAS AN RAID ARRAY!1!one" haha. Guess it'll be okay to have a couple HDDs without having a Raid configuration. Storage makes sense. Though I'm guessing that it's alright to just use the two or more drives as normal drives (without an array).

Okay, thanks for the info.

+Thinking of changing the case, the cable management is stupid, one side panel will not close.

+I'm also new to making comps (new hobby).
When you start looking at which make and model supply you will need you may want total up all of the hardwares and run the calc seen at the Antec page posted earlier to get an idea on the actual size of the supply you should run.

When first seeing a 587w total running 5 HDs on the last build I was relieved and knew that was covered by one of the better makes running the 700w model. For the new build counting one less drive I bought the same while considering the larger 1gb video card replacing a 512mb card on the old build plus the Phenom II X4 quad core cpu replacing the old 6000+ X2 dual core on the other case.

Well that seemed to balance things out plus leave just a little extra available. Note that a good supply for a mid to high end build will typically see at least 18amps on the 12v rails upwards to 25a on the best supplies if not higher.

For arrays you have to consider the different types of them since a mirrored array is typically a Raid 0 with one drive mirroring the other of the pair used. There's also Raid 5 and Raid 10 stripped arrays as well as the option for spanned volumes over multiple identical drives.

Whether identical or mismatched you can have each drive for individual applications like seeing two OSs one for each drive in a pair and each drive seeing a stand alone drive and bootable by unplugging the other during that particular installation. Some opt to have one single OS drive with several small storage drives one to backup another in case one fails.

All this would depend mainly on what best suits your own needs. You first want to plan things out ahead of time depending on how OSs you are planning to run as well as what each drive will see on it. Here there's one main OS drive with a second to allow for custom installs or eventually testing the next version of Windows when that time comes. The last two are strictly for storage and backup purposes there but still see separate drive letters assigned.

The card may be overheating - if that’s the case you may need to replace it. The other thing you can try if you're good at disassembling things is to take the card apart and re-apply some thermo compound and see if that help.

Anyway here's some more info.....
Other Helpful info….

Error - Driver Stopped Responding And Recovered (ATI) or Display Driver nvlddmkm stopped responding (Nvidia) – Do any type of search on these errors and you will get hundreds of hits, even here. This issue started out in Vista and is now seen in Windows 7. As you see, it affects both card manufactures. There are many theories on the causes, as well as solutions, to this problem, but no singular fix seems to work for all. While one fix might work for some, others find they don't work at all. I will however suggest you look at…

-a- Overclocking – If your system is over clocked, chances are that you card is as well. Or, you may be simply overclocking the card by itself. Either way, back off and see what happens.

-b- Overheating – The card could simply be overheating from a faulty or low running fan, to the thermo past on the heat sink wearing out or being inadequate for the job. Inspect the video card and insure everything is in good working order and that there are no loose parts.

-c- Case Cooling – If your case is small and cramped or has inadequate ventilation or fans, well, not only will the case get hot, but so will the components inside, including the CPU and GPU, which puts out enough heat on their own!!! Plus overclocking also causes heat!!! Something to think about.

-d- Power supply - Many of today's GPU's require at least a 450 watt power supply. Is your power supply adequate for the job? Check with the card manufacture. Also, If the card requires a power connection (4-pin connector) double check to make sure it's connected!

Outside of the above mentioned steps, the best way to go about this one unfortunately is through trial and error. However there have been quite a few people, including me, who have reported that replacing the video card solved the problem. Again, something to think about.

Kaarel that is one fix to stabilize the overdrive

Ussually when you have a driver quit etc meaning the driver never installed correctly to begin with - the way the driver is behaving suggest uninstalling

use driversweeper re install last driver you used it should fix the issue

I doubt the card is overheating you would get unwanted pixels and wierd reactions during mediocre task or even on start up

#1 uninstall driver
#2 Sweep it with driver sweeper
#3Reinstall last known good driver

Also if you feel that it is still heat related take a good can of air maybe 2 and take a few Q-tips as well and start a sturn cleaning of fans vents hdds cd/dvd roms video card cpu cooler etc

This will insure best performance

Not necessarily! You could have an overheat and not have artifacts!

And overheating isn't the only issue that can cause a Display stopped responding issue - a faulty card, or overclock can cause it as well. All you have to do is look at the info I provided, or Google the issue.

 AMD driver has stopped responding and has recovered

Windows 7 64bit - no matter which AMD/ATI driver - no support for display power save of latest Graphic-Card-series of ATI and possibly NVidia (maybe less or not occuring on 32Bit of Win7, but is constant on Win7 64Bit. Also, while crashes occur, even once after reboot, the applications/games running on top of the OS will gradually crash too.

Fresh OS install with latest or former drivers do not solve the crashes, nor do modifying bios voltage or software settings, or GPU reduced clocks, nothing eliminates or reduces the crashes, except the below

The :D ONLY solution so far :D that completely eliminated the constant crashes:
DISABLE Display and System power save

"Turn off the display "= NEVER & "Put the computer to sleep" = NEVER
(from Control panel >> Power options >> Change plan settings)

Btw, leaving Harddisk sleep after X minutes will not crash the driver.
