For some reason starting last week there is no sound coming out of my monitor. Whenever I click test on the AMD HDMI Output, it says the device is already in use. However there are no program currently running that will use it. I have tried with the "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device" checked and un-checked.

I also had this problem and after reading the AMD forum it would seem the latest AMD High Definition Audio driver has a problem,to solve the problem roll back the driver to a previous version and the sound will be back to your TV.It worked for me even though my roll back took me to a generic Microsoft HDMI driver i now have sound on my TV.

Doing this will just reinstall AMD High Definition Driver 7.12.0.7722,as i previously said this driver has a known fault concerning sound so a rollback is required to solve the problem.

HDMI audio gone after last AMD update

Step by Step How To resolv! (sorry about my bad English)

On the audio OUT/PLAY properties panel

Right click on HDMI audio output, then click "properties".

Then click on "proprties" again in the newly opened window (next to AMD High Definition Audio Device).

Then Click "Change settings" and toggle to second page.

With the middle button set back your previous driver.

And now you have HDMI audio again :D

I can't roll back the driver, it's greyed out.

Uninstall the AMD driver then reboot, windows will detect you don't have a HDMI driver installed and download it's own generic driver, stick with this till a new AMD driver is released.

All you need to do is un install the HDMI driver in the catalyst control panel. Then install only the HDMI driver from the previous driver. I had the same issue on a DVR machine and completely reinstalled windows 7 and got the same result.
OR try the latest driver that came out a few days ago.

You should uninstall the driver then, if you cannot rollback, uninstalling is your best bet, I see it's a 2015 driver, so, if there is a prompt of removing the driver files as well, do so, reboot and let windows install it's own shipped drivers, that should fix the HDMI issues.

If that don't do it, try to find a driver that is not newer than 2013 ones, I've heard AMD HDMI has issues with latests drivers in certain system configurations... Other way is to check your sound settings over "Playback Devices" on the sound icon context menu. AMD HDMI output should be the default audio playback while your HDMI device is plugged in. If it is, see if sound is not muted by default or something...

It's my best bet for this...

Thanks for your answer :). I am not a geek at all, so will have to take my time to find out all your suggestions. I have been before on this forum with my sound problem to be honest. It could well be hardware failure, but I am still not sure.

I let you know
